Zion a little overhyped?

when i see media guys like bill simmons calling him the best prospect since lebron, i kinda roll my eyes. from what i see, he obviously is an incredible athlete, will have an amazing impact scoring inside/defensively/ on the boards. but i’m not really seeing a transcendent type talent like even luka doncic was this year. i haven’t seen as much of his game so basically i’m asking – do you guys who have watched him all season really consider him a surefire all-nba first or second team type guy in the future? i’m more inclined to think ja morant should go #1 with his skillset. please tell me why i’m wrong

haven’t posted on this site in 3 years and the search function is broken so sorry if this has been asked a lot. i just know this place is really knowledgeable when it comes to prospects and i am genuinely curious if i’m just not seeing something thats obvious in zion.

Zion may not turn out to be the best NBA player out of this draft, but he has more than lived up to any hype so far and then some. Sweeping major NPOY awards (RJ did win 1), ACC POY/ ACC ROY, plus the Duke effect. Zion’s impact is bigger than basketball. It’s business, branding, marketing, money. Zion is gonna increase the networth of any NBA team the instant they draft him #1.

Still seeing a more athletic bigger stronger Julius Randle. Lots of bully ball. Better jump shot than Randle coming out though. Likely will be a multiple time all star but top 3-5 player in the league one day im not sure.

  Draymond Green defensive potential along with a more athletic, stronger randle on offense (not to mention more nba ready)? That’s definitely a top ten player imo.

As far as prospects go it doesnt get much better than Zion however Doncic is byfar the best prospect since Lebron. You could actually make a valid arguement that he was a better prospect than LBJ.

The tag as best prospect since Lebron is unfair? Have folks 4gotten about Kevin Durant? But I believe the thing that has most observers hyped is his amazing athleticism, combined with a high basketball ball iq and 2 way potential. 2 years ago while in high school,he was viewed as just a great dunker. At Duke he displayed a variety of skills. I don’t think we’ve seen the best of Zion yet.

Well you’re talking about KD, and not mentionning that Oden was drafted before him, making him the better prospect of the 2 for most GMs back then.

I think he’s overhyped, but that doesn’t mean I don’t think he’ll be a very good NBA player. I just don’t think he’ll live up to the hype. Especially being put in the same sentence as LeBron James, who’s 6’8/6’9" 250 lbs with freak athleticism, ridicoulous reach/wingpsan and passing/vision like Magic Johnson.

I love Zion’s motor/hustle, freak explosiveness/vertical/strength and excitement factor, but I don’t see what he does other than dunk/play bully ball. I don’t see the skill. Skill being dribbling, shooting, passing, posting up, footwork, etc, etc. He won’t always be able to bully guys who are 6’10" – 7’0" with 7+ foot wingspans who have 35-40 inch verticals.

We’ll see.

Luka Doncic was not the best prospect since LBJ, come on bruh. Durant, Rose, AD?

You have to take ZION #1 based on his potential but i do have questions about a 6’7 power forward with no consistent jumpshot. Also his wingspan LOOKS small, i could be wrong. Itll be interesting to see his measurables at the combine.

I think Morant and RJ could translate to the nba a little better, but again, Zion is the #1 pick soley based on what he could become.

I’d be taking Zion at 1 and trading him for a treasure trove – multiple future firsts plus either a really good proven player (borderline all star) or the #2 in this draft

Zion was able to dominate college ball because he was bigger. stronger and more athletic than everybody he played against. He doesn’t really have any great skill to his game. Once he gets to the league he will realize very quickly that he can’t just bully his way to the basket like he did in college when guys are just as athletic and strong as him. I was actually surprised at how well he shot the three in college he made like 24 on the year and I didn’t think he’d come close to that. I think Zion will realize he needs to become more skilled and work on his game. He’s a smart guy and a hard worker so I think he’ll do just that,
