BallerScriptParticipantForum redrafts were one of my favourite threads from a couple years ago. Let’s bring it back!
With the first overall pick in the 2014 NBA redraft, the Cleveland Cavaliers select…
Respond with who you’d pick and I’ll post the thread for the second pick tomorrow when we have our result for pick numero uno!
Notable Players Available:
PG – Spencer Dinwiddie, Marcus Smart, Elfrid Payton, Shabazz Napier, Tyler Johnson, Dante Exum
SG – Zach LaVine, Gary Harris, Joe Harris, Bogdan Bogdanovic, Rodney Hood, Nik Stauskas
SF – Andrew Wiggins, T.J. Warren, Torrey Craig, Kyle Anderson, Doug McDermott, Bruno Caboclo, Glenn Robinson III
PF – Julius Randle, Aaron Gordon, Jabari Parker, Jerami Grant, Dario Saric, Noah Vonleh
C – Nikola Jokic, Joel Embiid, Clint Capela, Jusuf Nurkic, Dwight PowellIf you’re wondering, I personally wouldn’t make my pick based on team needs due to how drastically these rosters changed.

BallerScriptParticipantMy pick is going to be Nikola Jokic.
I see Jokic and Embiid as 1a and 1b. Jokic is my pick purely out of my preference for his one-of-a-kind playstyle.

cohenbc1ParticipantJokic.
Interesting that right at the time the NBA was moving to "small ball" and "positionless" lineups, the clear top 3 in this draft were all true centers.

cohenbc1ParticipantOn second thought … this is based on the "If we knew then what we know now" concept, right? So if I were the Cavs in the summer of 2014, I’m pretty sure I still trade Jokic or anyone in this draft to Minnesota for Kevin Love, knowing Jokic is 3-4 years away from becoming as good as Love, and we’ve got LeBron now.
So really the question is, which players does Minny make that deal for? If they also knew then what they know now, they’d obviously rather have Jokic (or Embiid or Capela or several other guys) than Wiggins.
But if they are still stuck in 2014 thinking, and I’m the only one who sees the future, then I would still draft Wiggins because he was the consensus #1 pick back then, and I know for sure I can trade him for Love and go to 4 straight finals and win one title (beating the greatest regular-season team of all time). This is an accomplishment that doesn’t get nearly enough respect.

The GoatParticipantTo be fair, no one was picking Jokic top 20 let alone #1. No one. Embiid was the pick.

HobbyOGParticipantStill Wiggins..that’s what the Timberwolves wanted for the Kevin Love trade..

HitsterParticipantI’d role the dice on durabilty issues and take Embeast over The Joker.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantI’m going to just throw out everything that happened after and just go with best player available. Embiid was the consensus number one pick heading into the draft before the back issue popped up. In a redraft, given everything we know about the individual players now and independence of other circumstances, I’m still taking embiid number one. His overall potential and 2 way dominance win out over jokic’s offensive skill set and creativity (even given the durability concerns).

MkadozaParticipantEmbiid. He still has the most natural talent of any big in the NBA.

BlueRivers25ParticipantKnowing what we know about Jabari Parker, would he still be a lottery pick?

MkadozaParticipantThat is a Great Question. Its incredible how far Parker has fallen from his Sports Illustrated cover. "Best High School Player Since Lebron".

BlueRivers25ParticipantAt the time he was the best high school player.
