bt102ParticipantAnother tough one. Cleveland has young assets but aren’t that good. Reports are that Cleveland and Drummond are far apart to coming to an extension so they could go center in this draft. Garland and Sexton aren’t passers so they could go PG. They don’t really have a SF even though Porter Jr, can play it. And Love is old. They have so many holes yet no holes at the same time. To me, I’m going to go best available in Killian Hayes. I’m willing to bet he won’t end up being the pick here, but they need some passing on this team badly and they need someone who can defend. All their starters are negative defenders. I could see an Okoro, but I don’t really see it with him.

dmo21ParticipantLike you said, this is a tough one.
They have 2 really young point guards, but neither are phenomenal. So do you still look at Hayes or Haliburton?
They don’t have much on the wings. But is Okoro or Vassell a reach at 5?
They have old man Love, as well as a decent Larry Nance. Do you take Toppin who would play the same positions?
They don’t really have a center now that Drummond is gone. Okungwu is available, but once again, is this too high for him?I feel like their best fits would have been Edwards, Wiseman or Avdija. But in this realm, they are all gone.
So I’m going to go with Hayes as I think he is the BPA and is big enough to play the 2 alongside Sexton or Garland.1+-

OhCanada-ParticipantHayes openly said he doesn’t want to go to Cleveland in an interview. He wasn’t shy about it or beating around the bush, he said its not a good fit since they drafted guards in the last two years and doesn’t think they should draft him. I feel like European players are much more adamant about who drafts them and care alot more about fit then North American players.

dmo21ParticipantThanks for the info! I never heard about that info. Can’t really blame him for that view either.

sniperParticipantToppin.
Cleveland’s roster is such a mess of non-complementary parts, they have to take best player available and I think it’s a no-brainer at this point, Toppin is that guy.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantI’m going with Onyeka okongwu here. There is a lot of uncertainty at the center position with both Drummond and Thompson as free agents and it’s very possible neither is back. After going with guards in the past 2 drafts, I think they go big here. Toppin could be in play as well, but I feel like okongwu just has more long-term potential.

OhCanada-ParticipantDrummond is opting in thats why Detroit traded him for nothing. Noones gonna pay him what hes gonna make.

OhCanada-ParticipantI’ll go with Toppin here but Okongwu would also be a very good pick. Toppin gives them insurance in case Love gets hurt or traded, and if he can also play some small ball Center it gives them an excellent change of pace when Drummond comes out of the game. Coach Beilein likes to play fast, usually played with three guards and a PF at Center in Michigan.
Cleveland is in an odd situation here. They are one of the only teams with cap space available next year but their aren’t really many options to spend it out there. Some people expect Fred Van Vleet to be available but thats not gonna happen, Toronto will lock him up and pay him what he wants letting Ibaka and Gasol walk if they don’t take paycuts.
I think Derozan and Love want to play with eachother. The two have become good friends ever since Derozan started speaking on mental health and both have become leaders in making changes for the league which cater towards players mental health. Whether thats in Cleveland, San Antonio or another one I am hearing Detroit to reunite with Dwayne Casey I see that as something that has real potential to manifest. Derozan could just opt out of the San Antonio contract and sign with Cleveland. This way he can also get the hell away from Lebron James, until he falls asleep again and has a nightmare.

bt102Participant5 Obi Toppin, 2 Killian Hayes, 1 Okongwu.
That’s who I was expecting to emerge as this pick was Toppin. I’m not a believer in him personally. And with the interview on Hayes, I actually didn’t know he said that. Makes sense, but I think he’s better than Garland and maybe Sexton too, probably not at this point but in a couple years, I could see it.

HitsterParticipantI’ll go with Toppin as he could potentially play 3 to 5 and there are minutes to be taken there. I personally think the Cavs may look for a swingman so Vassell and Okoro may be in the mix. They will look at Hayes but he may be gone at 5 and doesn’t really want to go there, Okongwu has the most upside but Toppin is a safer choice.

canadabasketballisrisingParticipanti think it needs to be obi or oneyeka, everyone else is reach at this point…
I would go with Oneyeka as i think with his athleticism he can improve enough with an outside shot compared to obi can on defensive foot speed. NONE of us no’s the measure of how much each one wants to be great and will work so it really is a guessing game on the most important element here. Switching and guarding multiple players for a big is so important now, but bybombo does that well just like Bam so who knows?
Oneyeka will have to improve his outside shot…. you could really flip a coin between the two.

bt102ParticipantObi Toppin will be recorded as the #5 Pick to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Still free feel to put down who you think will go #5.

JCliff24ParticipantI cannot believe the love Obi is getting. Cleveland would be the worst fit for him in the lottery. He thrived in the pick and roll, Cleveland has nobody who excels passing the ball. Obi also isn’t a good defender and the Cavs were atrocious defensively. I have to go with Okongwu here. He is a stud defensively and I have to believe the Cavs move Drummond at the deadline for picks. 2nd choice would be Okoro.
