In this mock, we are going to assume that no picks are going to be traded, even though there will 100% be deals. For me personally, if Golden State is sitting here with Edwards off the board, this might be a surprise to some, but if they keep the pick, I think they are going Deni Avdija. They seem to like him, and a playmaking forward is something that they are going to need going forward. I don’t think Deni will be a star per se, but if he becomes a Nicolas Batum type player, that’s a win for Golden State in my eyes. He was better than Harrison Barnes anyways. I recognize the arguments with Ball and Wiseman, Ball I think could just as easily go here, but they are looking to win championships now, and I feel like if Ball were going to the Warriors, he would be the eventual Curry replacement when the time comes, and by then will Ball want to even stay? The center position is the easiest position to get via FA and the Warriors are known for having no above average centers. If they think Wiseman or Okongwu is really going to be a difference maker, by all means but I don’t see it with Wiseman and I think having a player’s stock tied to one player in particular can be dangerous with Bam and Okongwu. Look at the comparisons from Porzingis and Dragan Bender, or Donovan Mitchell and Lonnie Walker (who isn’t a write off but people were saying top 10)

I’m going to go with Ball, for both scenarios. If someone trades up to the #2 spot, I think it is going to be for Ball. If they don’t trade it away, I feel like they would go Ball. Wiseman makes more sense fit wise, but it doesn’t sound like they are really into him (could just be smoke screens). With Ball, they have a superior, younger, better shooting Livingston. Can back up both Curry and Klay or be used in a 3 guard line up which a lot of the league is doing these days.

I agree with the masses that say warriors might trade this pick. but for the sake of this mock. I’ll say wiseman.

I think they take Okongwu because he’ll be a day 1 contribution and will only look to improve his offense

note: he already has great touch and we know what the warriors do 🙅‍♂️

He’s also got heart and motor which these other guys all lack- Okongwu will put in the work

On a side note, I think LaMelo Ball screams bust and if not he’ll be a subpar starting point guard on a brink playoff team (at best)

So 2 Wiseman and 2 Toppin. 1 Okongwu, 1 Avdija, 1 Haliburton, and 1 Lamelo. Starting with the next one, I’m going to be asking for a second option because it’s going to be hard once we get further down. Forum still open for a while longer.

I personally would only ask for a 2nd option to break a tie if there is a tie between 2 or more players and then only give those players that tied as the options on the 2nd round of voting.

Yeah. That’s what I was thinking. Except with saving time with having to go around for a second vote.

The warriors are extremely likely to trade this pick but assuming they keep it I’ll go with wiseman. Even though he’s raw and unproven, he has the most upside of arguably any player on the board. He fills a need as far as a shot blocking and rim running presence from day one. Also, he’d be a guy that might hold the highest trade value in a potential package down the road.

Well I think GSW’s gonna trade the pick. In a perfect world you want them just to pick Wiseman or Okungwu and play out the season but as 2020 has proven the world is far from perfect.

I think Deni Avidja goes 2nd. He’s a can’t miss prospect in my opinion has all the shapings of an elite wing scorer with a complete game.

Thats my vote but I just want to say if they don’t go Center I would go with Killian Hayes here. Already a proven pro smooth lefty with a polished game high assist to turnover ratio good athleticism and size to play both guard positions. If he can add a right hand, right lane drive to his game he has a very good chance to be the best player out of this draft (alot of players do). He only finishes left right now, but so do alot of left handed players thats nothing new and leftys always through defenders off balance.

Why am I passing on the others?

LaMelo Ball is going to be an issue/premadonna player. He’s not his brother. He has always been alot cockier and doesn’t have the type of character teams want to build around. Not saying he is a bad person (how would I know) just saying he doesn’t come off as a team/community first type of guy. Hes already making a mockery out of the predraft process imagine when a reporter or a teammate asks him about a 1-15 shooting night or 5 turnovers. Too easy.

Haliburton is a very good player. The guy makes no mistakes and manages the game extremely well but when your picking 2nd you don’t want to draft a guy who is going to play it safe. Haliburton is going to cover alot of weaknesses but he hasn’t shown the outstanding ability to create them.

Obi Toppin I really like. He has great versatility as a PF and potential as a small ball 5. Problem is history doesn’t bode to well when drafting older prospects ahead of younger ones this high in the draft and I’ve just got Deni Avidja higher for that reason. Some NBA teams also do not like his stance. He is stiff, upright and doesn’t move his hips well.

I don’t think Avdija is this big prospect but he does have the tools. Interesting to see you have Killian Hayes though. I like him a lot and I think he would fit well in GSW.

I think they will look at Toppin and Wiseman. Ball could be used in a 3 guard unit and has good size so could mark SF but would he need the ball more than he is likely to get it in GSW.
Okongwu fits their bill too and is ahead of Wiseman in the draft but do they take any big at 2. If they don’t trade then could they trade down and get another asset to package with Wiggins and still draft inside top 10 and get a big?

If they do draft at 2 then I can see them taking Avidja he could be long term successor to Green and his passing ability and high BB IQ make him a good fit.

James Wiseman has been recorded as the 2nd Pick to the Golden State Warriors. Still feel free to put down who you think will go #2.
