So I was watching the Colin Cowherd show today and he said that Zion Williamson hasn’t hired an agent? Which then he stated by not hiring one means that Zion could theoretically could go back to Duke and be the number 1 pick next year. It really seemed that Zion was a littled stunned that Nola got the number 1 pick. When he was being interviewed he didn’t seem to eager about it. We have seen this in the past with can’t miss prospects not wanting to play for a specific team. So I guess the question becomes what does Zion do?

Hes going to get paid. He will lose out on around 10 million in the first year and what I would imagine is a massive massive shoe deal. I can’t imagine anyone in their right mind would give that up and Zion seems like a smart kid. It seems like as with almost all NBA rumors that this whole thing is getting over blown and is way more of a conspiracy theory.

 I can see both sides. But why come out next year just to be possibly being drafted by NO again or someother bad team. I do think the Pels were the most boring play he could of ended up.

Zero chance he will be back, it will be bad look for him, he will lose ton of money both as salary and endorsement and will likely will lose some of the hype and aura surrounding him being the young freshman etc.
On the other hand, while NOLA didn’t help AD or CP3 to win, they surely helped them to develop and build their reputation. It is great place to start your career, but not so great when you get your 3rd contract in the league

 I’ve never been to New Orleans, but I’m surprised to hear it being discussed as a place that isn’t attractive to a rich, famous, young athlete. Cajun food, great restaurants, warm weather, near the water, and a party atmosphere; isn’t that exactly the kind of scene these guys love? Zion is from North Carolina; I know that’s a few states away from Louisiana, but it’s still the South, right? I didn’t hear Drew Brees, Michael Thomas, or Alvin Kamara begging to leave New Orleans. I know it’s a different league, but we’re still talking about pro athletes. 

Plus, the GM for whom AD seemed to have contempt was Dell Demps, who’s gone. David Griffin is there, and he has assembled winning rosters before.They’re going to get a haul back for AD, possibly even Zion’s college teammate. I think Zion should be excited!

 I live in Mississippi and like visiting NO, and it’s definitely one of the more unique places in the United States, but it’s not really like you describe, there’s a lot of riff raff out running around in NO and it’s just not really a place that attracts young rich, famous people. It’s just not really a safe environment for people like that IMO.

I’ve traveled the world and visited all sorts of places, and I’ll be honest, N.O is one of the very few places I’ve ever felt uncomfortable in the tourist areas. 

To me, while there’s a lot to like about it, it’s not NY, Miami Beach or LA or even Las Vegas or places that famous, rich people like to visit.

That’s just me, I don’t know.

 No way he returns after all the hype around him. AD was happy enough to go to NOP and so was CP3. He seems a good character guy and has had a year with Mike K at Duke to polish his game and help him prepare for the NBA.

I do not think Zion is going back to Duke, nor is he going to refuse to play for New Orleans. This screams of a media story to fill the day. Maybe I am wrong, but let’s play out this story line anyway. Zion could pull out of the draft, sign a massive shoe contract, and then sign a deal to play in China for probably more than rookie scale (and given his body of work maybe even a well bank-rolled Euroleague team splashes the cash if given the chance). If the player was so inclined to avoid a team, he has options where he can still get the overwhelming majority, if not all, of the money he would otherwise earn as a rookie. Why go back to Duke? I get guys going back to college if they have no assurances of getting an NBA contract, and use the college system as a way to bet on themselves to get into the NBA through the front door with a guaranteed contract. I think that is smart. It makes no sense to turn down tens of millions.

Just relax media, the lottery just ended two days ago. He probably was still in college mode during the draft lottery. Now he realizes that its about to get real, so he’ll see that the Pels are making the changes (managemet wise) that are necessary to improve, thus they aren’t the Pels that we are used to. He’ll pick an agent probably next week. He’s not participating in the combine, maybe he’ll take that week to choose an agent. As always media blows a tiny thing way out of proportion.
