He Is Practically A Replica Of Marcus Dove, Former Oklahoma State Player. Great Defender, Long, Athletic. He Has A Few Question Marks About His Game And Attitude Though.

Going back a ways in trying to compare Dozier to another player, I am reminded of a former Memphis Tiger with NBA aspirations. David Vaughn. David had all the talent in the world, but would NEVER be aggressive and thus cost him a career in the NBA. Hopefully Robert will dispel my opinion, because I enjoyed watching him play and enjoyed his sudden bursts of assertiveness. If he can constantly do that, I think he has a future.

to weak to play the 4…not enough perimeter skills to play the 3…he will get drafted, no question!

btw…dont even compare this guy to Travis Outlaw…Outlaw is unstoppable at times in the NBA and has elite NBA athleticism as well as a deadly mid range game and a solid 3 pt %…Dozier will be lucky to be a 7th/8th man

He’s got all the perimeter skills to play the 3 which is the position he’d play in the NBA.

There’s not one perimeter skill that he lacks on defense or offense.

He’s close to Outlaw as an athlete and like Outlaw has a reliable three-point shot 40% which has developed nicely this season.

    Similar size.
    Similar games.
It’s an accurate comparison even if he’s a poor man’s Travis Outlaw.

If he had ALL the skills to play the 3 he would be a top-15 pick easily.

Forwards don’t have to be great ball handlers to be good players. He doesn’t have great ball handling skills, but then neither does Outlaw. That’s why they are so similar. They even have the same weakness.

Outlaw was a first round pick out of HS…If Outlaw played 4 years of college he’d easily be averaging over 25ppg and 8 rpg.

i really dont think that is a legit comparison.. i mean travis outlaw?? first of all, outlaw is a freak athlete! dozier is a good athlete 2 but definately not on the level of travis outlaw..2nd i dont think dozier has a true position on the next level.. sure he is shooting 40% from 3s but he is a low volume shooter.. meaning he doesnt even shoot alot of 3s he just picks his spots well.. im not saying hes not a good shooter now or cant be but just bcoz hes shooting 40% doesnt make him a ‘shooter’ i do like his potential as a defender tho..like cyclo said he has a 7’3 wingspan and has shown the potential to be a very good defender.. i just dont see him ever bein a travis outlaw type of scorer.. to me hes the type of player that will get most of his buckets off garbage points and dunks..with the potential to known the the OPEN shot but never in the way travis outlaw would..hes a 4 year college vet who knows his place on a team..i like his potential as a defender tho..

Robert Dozier just scored 18 points with 14 rebounds and 8-9 free throws today vs. Tulsa 3/14/2009.

Robert Dozier 6-10 215 with 7’3″ wingspan 1.5 blocks and 40% 3-pt. fg. on the season.

Travis Outlaw is a valid comparison. Robert Dozier could be every bit the defender that Outlaw is. Maybe not quite the scorer, but the same or better on defense. Outlaw is no defensive ace averaging less than 1 block and 1 steal per game for Portland. At the very least, Robert Dozier should be projected in the second round.

its just.. travis outlaw isnt even that great of a defender. and again just bcoz he shoots 40% from 3 doesnt make him a good shooter.. i bet if staging.nbadraft.net was 2 do a scouting report on him his jumpshot wouldnt be anything more than a 7.. travis outlaw has a really good jumpshot with great lift and can easily shoot over defenders.. dozier only shoots wen hes open n he doesnt look for his offense much.. true he did have 18 n 14.. against TULSA .cmon now. i really like dozier as a prospect but travis outlaw?? idk man i hope he reaches that level but i just dont see it.. as a defense oriented player yes.. but a travis outlaw, shoot in your face, dunk on you type of player.. i mean t.outlaw is an good defender but its based largely on his athletic ability.. whereas dozier hes not the athlete outlaw is.. but with that length i think he has the potential to be a better defender than outlaw.. i think the most valid comparison for dozier is a more athletic version of jared jeffries

Jared Jeffries isn’t a defender at all.

    Robert Dozier is a defender.

    Big difference.

Don’t tell me because Outlaw averages 12ppg in the NBA that Robert Dozier can’t be compared to him.

When you compare their games, athleticism, similar size and length, Outlaw is the best comparison.

Not saying Dozier will be as good.
Just saying Outlaw is the player most similar to him in the NBA.
Draft boards are filled with best case scenarios like that.

Yes he has plenty of potential, but its safe to say he will never reach it. He isnt much like Outlaw, outside of being painfully skinny. He doesnt have nearly the same run jump athleticism of Outlaw, or the jump shot. He looks good running up the floor and will block shots, but he isnt strictly a perimeter defender and he is waaay to skinny and weak to remain a frontcourt player. With that said,he looks like a Jared Jeffries clone, so thats a good comparison, but Jeffries isnt a good player so he should try to improve to be on that Outlaw level he possibly could be at if he improves.

Nope. Jared Jefferies isn’t a defender. He’s in the NBA because he’s a multi-skilled 6’11” forward, though he’s not good at using his skills. He’s also a tweener. If Jared Jefferies was a defender, he’d be playing HUGE minutes for the Knicks — a team that could use some defense. Guess Jefferies’ defense isn’t that good.

Robert Dozier is skinny for sure at 6-10 215, but he’s athletic enough to defend SFs and bother them with his height, length and shot blocking ability. He’s also quick enough to guard SFs on the perimeter.

What does Outlaw do with his athleticism? Shoot jump shots. Above average on defense, but nothing special. Outlaw averages less than a steal and a block per game.

Robert Dozier shoots 40% from three-point range, defends well and is a shot blocker. He should match or surpass Outlaw’s defense and at least be a poor man’s Outlaw on offense.

hes a multi skilled forward tho hes not good at using his skills? riiiiightt good call……. ok well w.e u seem 2 really love the travis outlaw comparisons w.e best of luck 2 him.. but wat i cant swallow is how u still say jeffries is not a defender .. that is wat he does.. that is why he gets burn even if its not alot.. that is wat he gets paid 2 do.. hes does nothing else.. he isnt a shooter, he doesnt rebound or pass very well.. hes not that athletic… hes plays D .. that is wat he does.. the statement that jeffries isnt a defender is absolutely ridiculous

would u stop saying dozier is a 40% 3pt shooter.. HES NOT THAT GOOD OF A SHOOTER. in fact he is VERY average shooter at best. u need 2 stop lookin at stats so much thats probably why u think jared jeffries is not a defender coz he doesnt even average either over 1 steal or 1 blck.. but guess wat neither does bruce bowen.. wat r u gna say now that bowen isnt a defender either?

If Jeffries was a good defender at 6-11, he’d be playing huge minutes for the Knicks who could use some defense up front… but his defense isn’t good enough — so he doesn’t play much.

This season, Dozier is shooting 51% fg. 73% ft. 39% 3-pt.fg. (updated)

That’s a good shooter. He may not be a volume shooter, but he makes a high % of the shots he does take in addition to being a good athletic defender at 6’10” 215.

Well worth a high second round pick.

you dont know wat ur talking about.. did you not read any of the articles i so graciously copy and pasted for you 2 see he doesnt play bcoz all he can do is play good defense.. on a team lyk the ny knicks he is an offensive liablity and THAT IS THE REASON HWY HE DOESNT PLAY SO MUCH.. wen its all said and done dozier will be LUCKY to get drafted and his chances of landing a spot in the league is slim to none SORRY ..

The Knicks have plenty of offense, but ZERO defense.

If Jeffries was sooo good on defense at 6’11”, he’d be starting and playing HUGE minutes for the Knicks–a team with plenty of offense, but ZERO defense. Fact is, Jeffries’ defense isn’t good enough to make a difference on the court or to help the Knicks win ball games.

There is no reason why Robert Dozier wouldn’t make it in the NBA.
6-10 SFs with his length and defensive ability who can also shoot and make open shots are in demand. He clearly has the physical ability to make it in the NBA and be a quality role player for years.

    6″10″ 215 SF Memphis

    12.4ppg. 7.3rpg. 1.4apg. 1.2spg. 1.7bpg. 51%fg. 73%ft. 39% 3-pt.fg.

As a SF, this is the profile of a high second round pick.

I have also wondered this same question. I think Dozier will get drafted and be a good bench player maybe similar to a Carl Landry type of guy. Dozier can bring defense, rebounding, and scoring. He should be a mid to late 2nd round selection whether he plays SF or PF.

if this guy writes ^’10” 215 one more time im going to die. What is this obsession? Dozier is good at memphis! In a poor conference. Look at Joey Dorsey. Cant even get a minute in the nba. Dozier is a 2nd rounder at best and will probably be the 11th man on a team. Outlaw has more skills, more athletic and can shoot better. The fact is he’s averaging 12 and 7 in conference USA. This isn’t the ACC or Pac-10. Second round or undrafted i think

Okay I don’t think we need to being Conference USA into this. I think Dozier has a good chance to be drafted with a late second round pick, but there is also a legit chance he goes undrafted. He was a 4 year starter on a Memphis team that won 60 + games in a row in Conference USA. I know its Conference USA and the teams there are not the best. But dont you think in 4 years 1 team would have beaten them 1 time? That’s an impressive feat no matter what. Anyways a little off topic but I think it shows he is a committed player. He will never be mistaken for the best player on his team no doubt but he is a smart player. He knows how to use his body without fouling and he is a good rebounder for someone who gets pushed out to the wing quite often. He routinely guards bigger SF/PF and he can hold his own. He has a good reach and he is a legit threat to be a shotblocker. He is pretty versatile on the defensive end as well. He is not quite quick enough to keep up with a fast SF but his length can make up for that. And he has good footwork in the post to guard a bigger man. And even though we keep mentioning he shoots 40% from 3 I don’t think he will ever be mistaken for a three point shooter. He can hit an open shot for you on occasion but that’s not what he is best at. I think in the right system he will get playing time. I can even see Houston buying their way into the late second round to draft him. He plays a lot like Dorsey, undersized and scrappy, and Houston’s roster is filled with those types of players.
