lebron no doubt. Josh smith used to be a contender but after the last injury he fell off. You cant go wrong with dwight howard either although he simply doesnt have the ball handling skills, speed, and court vision of a lebron.

Nate Robinson, LeBron, and D Howard have to be in the discussion. With Andre Iguodala, Josh Smith, and Jason Richardson behind them. I also wouldn’t sleep on Chris Paul or Russell Westbrook. It’s not just about jumping. It’s also speed and quickness. I don’t know what ball handling and court vision have to do with athleticism though. The reason everyone says LeBron is becasue he does it while being so big, and it’s hard to argue with him.

Gerald Henderson is a stud athelete, his game has grown a lot over the summer. I’m impressed by his jumpshot and by the way the guy is jumping out the gym. He’s developing that killer attitude that all great players need not saying he’s a great player, but if he keeps improving he could be very good. But as far as the pro ranks go it’s Lebron hands down the guy is unreal.

It depends on how we define athlete…

There is at least two different operational definitions that stand out…basketball athletic…and overall athletic…

Basketball athletic-we can define as athletic talents thats help you in the sport of basketball

overall athletic- we can define as athletic talents that help you in a wide variety of sports.

    for basketball athletic–Lebron, Shaq, Kobe.

Overall Athletic–Steve Nash- Maybe the only player that could play professionally in two sports like Deion or Bo Jackson. Bruce Arena – the head coach of the US Olympic Team said that Nash could easily play in MLS right now if he wanted to. ..Nate Robinson played football in college.

Also speaking of Big men…Dirk Nowitzki is more athletic…BY FAAR than Dwight Howard..

Yea sure..Dwight is stronger than Dirk..but when it comes to coordination, agility, balance..it’s not even freaking close..

I’d like to see Dwight dribble the ball down the court on a fast break, let alone..dribble all the way down the court, using a few behind the back dribbles and then pull up for a 3 pointer and swoosh it.

Dirk Nowitzki isnt even on the same planet as Howard in coordination, agility, or balance…how can you say that? That was a ridiculous statement. Dirk is the more skilled basketball player, but he is even close to having the same amount athletic tools Dwight Howard has. Your whole last paragraph has nothing to do with athletic ability.

You’re right he’s not on the same planet. He is on a whole different level than Dwight athletically. A much higher level.

What do you mean I can’t say he doesn’t have the coordination and agility or balance as Dwight? What do you think it takes to dribble a ball, shoot with proper form etc??

Do you think the only reason guards dribble and shoot better than centers is because they practiced more and therefore have more skill? Obviously not, it’s because they have more COORDINATION, better control over their bodies. Dwight Howard dribbles and shoots worse than the average 12 year old girl.

To further hammer down the point think about sports that require a lot of coordination, quickness and agility. Such as Tennis or ping pong( at which Dirk is known for his prowess)..do you really think Dwight would stand a chance against Dirk in tennis? Can you see Dwight throwing a mean curveball? No, but I could see Dirk being a pitcher. Soccer? Or handball? Another sport Dirk was great at. Lacrosse?

Dirk would dominate Dwight at any sport that requires a lot of coordination, agility, and balance.

    ok, if you say so.

It would be nice if you could actually make an argument though, instead of just saying that you’re right. Unfortunately, you can’t.

    I’ll get you started.

    1) My operational definition of Basketball athletic is.(fill in blank here)..and this is a good definition because (fill in blank here)

    2) Dwight Howard is a better athlete than Dirk because (fill in blank here)….
