Most every year there’s that one guy drafted in the lottery that no one expects. Everyone online has similar drafts, but the NBA execs always have a few surprises. So, who do you think those surprises will be?

My list of guys who might get into the lottery (it won’t be all of them, maybe one… a lot depends on the Combine) is…

Jalen McDaniels – Not strong yet, but will probably get strong. Perfect for today’s game. Long, athletic, great motor. Plays hard. Good face-up game. Very good handle and shiftiness for height. It takes smaller, faster defenders to guard him, but he can shoot over them. Shot looks pretty good. Has a decent touch around the rack. 3 ball a little inconsistent like his form. But he just needs little tweaks. Nothing is broken. Great for transition basketball. Hops. 47/32/73 (2 3’s/game). Last year 59% FG, 78% FT.

Ky Bowman – He juke people out of their shoes. Has a couple playground moves that no one has. Handles a triple team really nicely. Needs less than an inch of space to get around someone or get a shot off. Dunks pretty easily and solidly despite his height. 3 shot looks respectable. Could create a lot of offense for himself or someone else. Huge distraction. 40/37/76 (7 3’s/game). 49% FG and 45% 3PT (4 3’s/game) as a freshman. Shot 80% from the line before.

Jalen Lecque – Maybe the jukiest player in the draft. Great handles. When others would do a layup, he dunks. Serious ups. Might be a top guy if he went to college. Percentage from 3 not amazing. 25%, 63%FT, 52% FG. Nice looking jumper.

I left off my least likely pick:

Miye Oni – Has a special grip on the ball. Long, has an extra finger-roll that hives him excellent control of the ball. Plays Dr. J style. Does get up quite high. Rises above everyone for mid-range jumpers. Gets separation. Dunks nicely. Not afraid of pro-range 3’s. 44/37/79 (5 3’s/game).

I see him as a second round pick, has a basic game, potential effective role player in the mold of kcp/kent bazmore

This may sound crazy, but I still think Bol Bol gets drafted in the lottery and most mocks have him outside the lottery right now.

Probably not the kind of surprise selection you are looking for, but he’s worth a top 10-12 pick IMO. He has a skill set that fits the modern game for a big, can shoot, pass and handle, and defensively, I think he moves well enough to defend a little in space and has terrific potential as a shot blocker.

I worry about his motor and intensity, but I think he has as much upside as any player in the draft.

No way I’d let him slip below 8. Dude is the same size as Rudy freakin Gobert and shoots 3s.

My higher than expected lottery selection is Ty Jerome to go at the end of the lottery.

Has good size, a good pass, IQ, good jumpshot and has held his own in big moments.

Bol Bol’s a fringe lottery pick on every mock draft. way to go out on a limb. it’s comments like this one i really hate. such weak sh*t. My guesses for a surpise in the lottery is a guard from Virginia (if they declare) Ty Jerome, or Kyle Guy. Matisse Thybule from Washington. Jordan Nwora from Louisvile. All long shots… but i feel they will have productive careers and worth the pick.

kabengele and porter are a couple darkhoreses.

kabengele put up solid numbers without geting start type minutes.  he’s 6-10 and has ability to stretch the court.  also seems like a solid shot blocker with enough athleticism to last in the nba.

porter is a guy that a lot of scouts/sites thinks will translate better in the nba than college.  he’s got nice size/build and is athletic.  had some disciplinary issues and also never got starter minutes.  appeared to be a very efficient scorer.

Although I have questions about all these guys and don’t necessarily see them as lottery picks in draft with so much uncertainty outside of the top 3 you never know. It only takes one team to really like a particular player.

Brandon Clarke-His versatility on defense could really make him intriguing to some teams, particularly if they feel he has some untapped upside on offense they could unlock.

Carson Edwards-Some teams seem to overreact to big ncaa tourney performances when evaluating prospects and might fall in love with his competitiveness and moxie. Could be enough for a team to reach on him in the back half of the lottery.

Tyler herro-he’s probably doesn’t project as enough of a 2 way player to be a lottery pick, but with so much value on shooting in today’s league you never know.

lugentz dort- He’s long as has a solid frame and is still developing his offensive game.  If a team believes they can build him into a Marcus smart type intangible guy they might reach on him.

Goga, he is doing very well right now and with players like Jokic and Nurkic doing well in the league I think a team in late lottery might take a look at him.

Of the guys not mentioned I’d say Tyler Herro. Every draft seems to have one SG that is thought of as a late 1st rounder that goes in the lottery and he usually ends up great. Just off the top of my head Klay Thompson, Devin Booker, Luke Kennard, Donovan Mitchell, Jerome Robinson last year.

I agree that someone will take a punt at Bol Bol likely inside the top 10 and certainly in the lottery. He only needs one GM to like him. With several teams being double handed or even triple handed in 1st round then it lessens the risk of a team taking a flyer on him. I could even see someone like Brooklyn trading up for him potentially.

Bitadze could be a dark horse to go higher if he impresses in his workouts, with that batch of bigs in the mid to late first round, their draft order will take some figuring out and a guy who teams may not have seen as much of as the NCAA guys could well impress them.

My pick is Luis King, I think he’s gonna sky draft boards, great size for a wing, two way player with smoothness and untapped potential, similar but better prospect than kevin Knox of last draft, i think he is going no lower than 16 to Orlando…

I think Louis King is a sleeper pick too, but I’m not sure he goes in the lottery, he does have good size at 6’8 with a 7′ wingspan. He is a good athlete and has a smoothness to his game. My current comp for him is Richard Jefferson.
