Its a shame that the narrative on this guy has forever become "if his heads right", "if his shot is falling" type phrases because he really is great player…if his heads right and if his shots falling. Derozan used to have these same problems but the difference between the two is Demar used to be able to find other ways to score when he could hit the jumpers which would limit the games where he was ineffective in the playoffs. Lowry gets into extended slumps and usually needs some Playoff garbage time where the teams up big and all shots are falling to snap out of it.
Assuming history repeats itself and he continues to struggle this is what I would like to see from Lowry.
First of all I would take him out of the game in the first 4-6 minutes of each half subbing him for Van Vleet and bringing him back in with Ibaka and the second unit. Then I would attack whoever is the weakest defensive big man strictly in pick and roll and make Isaac stay in the corner. So if Vucevic is on the floor attack him in p&r. If Gordon is on Siakam attack him and if Isaac is on Siakam put Siakam in the corner 3 position to clear the lane.
Magic will go under on p&r every time, Lowry needs to use his strength and get to the line. They will probably start off with Augistin on Lowry, then switch to Ross and Iwundu if they have success. The goal should be to get Iwundu on the floor because he’s a liability on offense and Ross cant gaurd Lowry hes not strong enough.
In his prime Lowry used to get to the line 6-7 times per game. Last two seaasons thats down to 3. This could be a very good way for him to get some feel and shoot out of his slump. Only problem with this is he will complain on every play that doesnt go his way and that negativity will creep into him.
