 Anybody else impressed by Washington’s collection of young players? They dont have a ton of outstanding talent like the Kings or Hawks but all the peices they do have fit and there is defenitely upside there. Bringing in veteran point gaurds like Thomas and Smith and a good 3 and d wing Bertans really helps as well. 

Bryant, Hachimora, Wagner, Bonga and Brown have some appeal. I kinda like the direction they have been going since Wall got hurt and like the way they play together this preseason.

 Outside of maybe Thomas Bryant and Rui 8mura, their young coure is kinda meh.

 Can’t say I’m super impressed … sure Ish Smith and IT are good leaders, but they don’t really figure into the team’s long-term outlook, and of the young guys you mentioned, three haven’t even proven they belong in the NBA, and Bryant probably maxes out as a very good backup. Hachimura’s more likely going to be just a solid starter rather than an all-star.

Oh and Bertans is not a 3-and-D wing. He can’t guard wings at all, but he’s decent against bigs if they’re not too quick. He’s a softer version of Matt Bonner with more hops and maybe a better stroke. Not surprised if he gets traded to a contending team with Pop connections like the Bucks, Sixers or Warriors.

 I think both Rui and Wagner are going to be reliable starters. Beal is a max player. I haven’t given up on Wall or IT and Ish Smith will give you an honest days work. I’d burn the rest at the stake, season with garlic and fill them with silver bullets, just to be sure.

For the moment, take Beal and Ish Smith, CJ Miles, IT, etc out of the equation and focus just on their group of young guys. 

The question I have is, how would you rank each teams core group of young players out of all the NBA teams currently in some form of youth movement? 

I always look for stars first, because it takes stars to win in the NBA, and then guys who can impact winning. I’m not sure where Washington’s group of young guys would rank on that list, but it wouldn’t be real high IMO.

 Thing is Beal is Washingtons star so it makes it easier for the young players to develop around him and fall in line. And who knows what guys will add to their game look at how Montrezl Harell and Paskal Siakams offensive skill progressed. It would be naive to say Hachimora couldnt develop into a star over time. Wouldnt be my first guess of all the NBA’s young talent but I wouldnt rule it out.

If Hachimora was on the Raptors or the Spurs people would be absolutely thrilled about his upside.

 Let me put it  this way…It would be in Washingtons best interest to do the following…Trade or not resign everyone except Rui…Beal is debateable but age may be a factor and if you are tanking for another top 10 pick he may effect that also.

I don’t hate the young players they have gotten Thomas Bryant and MO waegner…But at best they are just good role players. Rui is the only player that legit looks like a starter level player.

The wizards are in the exact same spot OKC was in at the end of last season.not good enough to contend not bad enough for a high pick.

Personally I would do the following:

Move Beal at the end of the season for a package of either a high lottery pick(say top 5 bare min), a protected first rounder(top 5-8 range)+ reasonable level starter back. Pair these rookie with your rookie. You then have a young core of Rui+ at least 3 young players to form a potential core to move forward with..

Get as many picks as possible and develop young players skill set as much as possible..Then start again

 There is absolutely nothing impressive about what the Wizards have done recently.  I still havent gotten over the fact they gave Ian Mahinmi 64 mil.  I live in Maryland outside of DC and used to love going to Capital One to see the Wiz play.  Incompetent manager for years has made me boycott going to any Wiz games for the forseeable future.  Rui and Thomas Bryant have a chance to be good, but the Wizards are not going to be good anytime soon.  I’d much rather go to a Georgetown game and see Mac McClung who has a chance to be an all conference performer in the Big East in my opinion than waste any money on Wizards tickets.
