Seems like nobody sees what a good position the Pelicans are in, shortterm and longterm. If they make the right moves this offseason they could make the playoffs and have a good young core. 

This summer they have cap space for a max free agent before an AD trade, however they wanna use it. Doesnt necassarily have to be spent on a max calibur player but that means they can get some valuable peices and get in the market for the Marcus Morris or Jonas Valanciunas type players. 

The AD trade should at least net what an injured Kawhi Leonard got (late 1st round pick, allstar and a young player that can fill a rotation). Maybe they go a different route and look for cap relief, draft picks and young players. Either way its alot of talent.

And of course you have the 1st round pick Zion Williamson who projects to have an immediate impact with his strength and athletisism alone.

Next year they have Moore and Hill coming off the books as well which is another $21 mil plus the cap is increasing by I think another $10 mil so if they play their cards right with this AD trade "in theory" they could have Holiday, an allstar, the 1st overall pick and 2019 max free agent and a 2020 max free agent.

Dont look now but the Pelicans could become a serious threat thanks to Anthony Davis wanting out and resulting in them tanking the season. This is why they wouldnt trade him during the season, because they plan on competing.

 I don’t see them making the playoffs next season. Outside of Holiday it is likely they will be a very young team. Even very talented young teams struggle to make the playoffs especially their first season as a unit. 

New Orleans has trouble recruiting the Max money free agent type player. That is why AD wants out he wants to compete for a title. I think a lot of the Marcus Morris type free agents want that as well and will be reluctant to sign in NO unless the money is outrageous. 

The Spurs got a decent haul for Kawhi but I guarentee they would have been better this year and the years to come if they were able to keep him. If the Pelicans make solid choices (Zion being the easiest choice in years) they can end up better off without AD down the road. It usually doesn’t work out that way.
 

As good as PG-13 was in OKC this year I am sure they would have been better with KD (a healthy KD obviously). It isn’t easy to replace elite players and teams that lose them don’t often compete for a few years after they leave. Trading him is clearly better than losing him for nothing but I can’t come up with many superstars that were traded and the team they left got the better end of the deal.

I want them to have much young talent to sorround Zion, I think the Lakers and Knicks could provide that. WIth the Knicks you’re getting 3rd pick which can be Barrett (and rumors about Ja falling to 3rd), and have Knox and or Robinson. That is a good building block but the Knicks recently said they would not include all of their young assets beacause of they are scared of what could happen like in the Carmelo trade. Idk wether Robinson and Knox and Smith Jr is a perfect match to build aroud Williamson

Smith Jr, Barrett, Knox, Zion and Robinson, what a young nucleus they got there. But that cannot guarantee wins, mcuh more a playoff berth, young players need to gel more compared to veterans and learn.

 

The Lakers mean while can offer Ball Kuzma Ingram and the 4th pick, but after the 3rd pick who will the pelicans get. Aside from Barrett Zion and Ja, this draft after number 3 could benot that good compared to the 1st 3 picks.

If Im the Pelicans I would demand them to trade ball and acquire another pick to get a PG Garland or Coby white, they would be great fit with Willimason because they can space the floor, or get a Center

Pels could be Garland/white, Ingram, Kuzma, Zion and they can add a Center or if the Lakers did not get Kuzma they can add a shooting guard

I’m laughing at the Pelicans because they’re not going to get anything close to the offer they got at the trade deadline. Sure they’re going to get some great young players – but not what they could’ve gotten.

They’ll get 2 out of Lonzo, Ingram and Kuzma. Along with the 4th pick and maybe a future pick. Probably won’t get Kuzma in this deal now – zero sympathy for them.

They’re not making the playoffs in the west. That’s laughable. But in the future – wouldn’t be surprised to see them in the conference finals.

 Yes i thought they should of taken that package when lakers gave up half their team.  Celtics losing Kyrie will prob not do a better offer.

 I think the Pelicans may end up with a Lakers deal, but it will involve Boston.

For example, Lakers get Davis

Boston gets #4, Ball and Kuzma

Pelicans get Tatum, Hayward, Ingram, Boston’s picks (21 & 23)

 

Something like that.. if salaries match of course

 Well, they potentially need a PG if Kyrie and Rozier go. Trading Hayward away is common sense as he is owed far too much. They have lost Morris so they need more scoring at the 4. 

For two late firsts, you get to dump Hayw ards contract and get back Kuzma and Ball ddress to address the needs. The only way the Lakers and Pels engage you is to move Davis, and the Pels want Tatum for that. I think #4 is a fair return when you consider the entire package. 

 

The Lakers  still move the same players they wanted to and get Davis while the Pels get Tatum in a package that fits their demand.

Just my Opinion:

If I was the Pelicans:

I would say the following we will trade A.D and no bad contract to the Lakers for the following:

Ball-They like him alot(well coaching staff at least)

Ingram-GM apparently is High on him..

Kuzma-Does the exact same things as Taytum except a little older and on a way cheaper deal(currently) 

The 4 th pick This  is up in the air you either a) tell them the player you want to draft or b) Tell them to trade it to insert teams name for a certain player or pick and player/pick type move..For example apparently Hawks want in top 5 so…Maybe 8,10 and something/someone else for the 4th pick.. So Pelicans either get certain player or more talent via more selections on cheaper deals…

and at least 1-2 future 1st round pick only top 3 protected and a 2nd rounder or two..

This is the only deal I would take from them if they didn’t want to have get a star level player(which would be a lot harder to get)..

Lakers apparently want to keep Kuz,my guess is floor spacing as it can’t be his defense lol..But personally I let him go if A.D is their guy..The catch is you have to hope you can somehow get some shooting in F.A though..

If they didn’t want to do this I would tell them I will call the Knicks(bluff lakers) and say Trade all your young players for: Say Bradley Beal or Insert Allstar level player here that Pelicans are high on+ the 3rd pick..
