Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantDoes anybody else think Nnamdi Asomugha is overrated? I thought we were going to get a shutdown corner and he hasn’t been able to stop anybody all season!
He gave up over 90 yards to Bennett tonight and has had a terrible season this year.
He gives up huge plays time after time, I’m starting to think we’re better off having Samuels and DRC as our two main corners and trading Asomugha for an actual LB.
What’s the take of other Eagles fans?

I May Be WrongParticipantIm not sure if Nnamdi is being used properly. Overrated is such a harsh word lol. BTW, I really didn’t like that pass interence they called on him late but thats just my opinion.
If anything I actually thought Asante made a huge mistake towards the end. I mean, the blitz was there and they just let Culter make it look easy toBennett in the corner. God, this loss hurts so much! -___-… I dunno how many tough losses we can take

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantThe thing is, this team is built to rely heavily on our pass defense because of Samuels, DRC, and Asomugha but they can’t seem to stop anybody, thus forcing our safeties to play deep zone.
With our terrible linebackers, if a running back gets passed the O/D-line, it’s nearly always a 10 yard gain because the corners and safeties are cleared out.
If Samuels, DRC, and Asomugha would actually play to their potential, we would see the safeties play closer to the LBs and help them out by giving them some support. We would also see more LB and safety blitz because our corners would have their man in tough situations.
But since our best corner can’t stop anybody, we need safeties up top.
Think of the Jets, the reason they are able to blitz so often is because the best receiver on the field is being shut down by Revis and the other is slowed down by Cromartie. That leaves either one or no safeties and multiple LBs to blitz.
Simply said, our entire defense relies on Asomugha; if he shuts down his man, we could fill the box to stop the run or sack the QB.

Johnny ChillI think DeSean is the one that is overrated. Yes, he is one of the fastest guys in the league. But Macklin is the better WR. The Eagles are going to have to make a decision whether to sign DeSean or LeSean. If I was making the call, I would trade DeSean or let him walk, because speedsters can be replaced. On the other hand, the Eagles better pay LeSean and lock him up for the next 5 years. He is a badass since Westbrook.
Defensively, the Eagles can’t stop the run because they dont have any fat boys in the middle to plug up the hole, plus their LBs are really young and pretty weak.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantThe things about DeSean and Maclin is DeSean is ONLY a deep threat and can’t do anything down the middle or in the flat. Jeremy Maclin has A LOT of clutch drops late in games.
Both of them have their flaws but the Eagles desperately need a big receiver that they can hit in those 3rd and short situations or in the endzone. Brent Celek has become that guy recently but I honestly believe the Eagles are one big receiver and one good linebacker away from being a superbowl contender.
I also agree that we NEED to sign McCoy and lock him up, he is BY FAR the Eagles best offensive player and I’m tempted to say he’s the best player overall, even over Trent Cole and Jason Babin, who are having tremendous seasons.

apb540ParticipantWith the Eagles 3-5 and no Sixers, I have no reason to wake up tomorrow. Being a Philly sports fan hurts.

aamir543ParticipantBeing a 49ers and Raiders fan who had to suffer for so many years, (I was not alive for the glory days, lol) I can be sure that you guys will be fine. The Eagles are a talented team, but stupid Vince Young had to go around hailing them as the dream team, and put a target on their back.
As for Nnamdi, he is not being used properly. Just put him on the other team’s best reciever, and don’t worry about it, he’ll take care of buisness.
On a sidenote, after year after year of having my Niners hyped up, and then having to be dissapointed year after year, I had no faith in them this year- zero. Until they just kept winning and winning. I am still skeptical, because although Smith is playing well, I don’t think you can consistantly ask him to win games, which is why keeping Frank Gore healthy and rolling is so important.

joecheck88ParticipantOur defensive coordinator is terrible. Went from o line coach to defensive coordinator and is not getting the job done. Our linebackers are terrible. Asante Samuel is the real problem. He got burned alot last night for no reason. I think he is mailing it in. DRC doesnt play enough. Maclin’s drops are becoming a serious problem. Desean should have gotten paid this offseason and i am thinking he is trying to stay healthy to get a decent contract.
The team as awhole has been bad. the defensive line and leasean mccoy are the only bright spots. Everyone else has underperformed. This draft we need some good o lineman and linebackers. We need to keep DRC and get rid of Samuel.
Nnamdi was never a Darelle Revis. He was a great cover corner in man situations. He was never a guy that made interceptions. The eagles have played a lot of zone this year which doesnt play to his strengths. I think he will be better next year with a full training camp.

HaleParticipantScrabble isn’t overrated, like others have said he is being used improperly. When he is in man he is a lockdown corner but not a playmaking one. He’ll shut down the top WR but he won’t get many ints. He is being used primarily in a zone in Philly which doesn’t play to his strengths. Although he was the one who told Andy Reid he wanted to try new things.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantWhere’s the beef?
I mean seriously.. where is it? All we have are these agile guys on offense and defense but when it comes to making tackles or getting physical, we get pushed around. Asomugha refuses to tackle anybody, DRC gets pushed around, our LBs are terrible.
I was hoping for this team to pull a 12-win season but right now, I’m not even sure if we’ll make the playoffs!
Seriously, 3-5? For one of the most explosive offenses in the league?
3-5? For what seemed to be the best pass-defense in the league with three good corners and two good pass rushers?
3-5? For Vick, who had a spectacular season last year?!
But in all seriousness, I had a feeling this would happen. The Falcons were notorious for making the playoffs one year and missing them the following when Vick was their quarterback. Old habits are hard to break.

HaleParticipantVick had really one had one good season at QB coming into the year, and it was last season. Their WR’s are all seemingly big play guys who aren’t consistent overall. The wide 9 defense they run is dumb considering their personnel even if they have tightened the gaps a little bit. McCoy is an abolsute monster though.

Malik-UniversalParticipantit seems they have taken things for granted this yr…
when i watch them play i feel as if they feel obligated to win
lesean mccoy is beasting right now… but vick is doing just alright.. thrown to mant int’s
there recieving can be better beside maclin whos doing good this yr…
but desean jackson only 2 td’s this yr so far??? and only 23 receptions to
there d hasnt been great either
maybe they need a down yr so they can open there fucking eyes and destroy next yr…
which would be my dream next to the lions winning it all

apb540Participant-Desean Jackson is clearly not a player deserving of big money. Makes big plays and I certainly want him on my team, but he is as good as gone.
-Nmamdi is cover corner who also has the size to step in and cover the other team’s elite TE. He is being put in zone far too often and looks lost trying to tackle. As for his lack of INT’s, it’s because no one threw to his man in Oakland. Look it up.
-Asante didn’t have a great game but DRC actually looked much worse. Not sure how some of you think Asante is the main problem. I was polishing off Yuenglings all game at the bar and DRC’s pathetic performance was still as clear as day. He is showing the same flaws he showed in Arizona.
-The O-Line actually hasn’t been as bad as I thought they would be. Big ups to Howard Mudd there. I mean they aren’t good, but they exceeded my very low expectations.
-The Linebackers are the worst in the league and an absolute joke for a defense that has so many good players at other positions. We need to abandon any kind of a "wide" formation on first and second downs to help mask our pathetic LBs. At this rate, we might get a high enough pick to draft Vontaze Burfict (ILB from Arizona St.; a bit wild but I don’t care.)
-This team, as usual, is not good in the redzone. Part of that has been Mike Vick’s 5 picks in there. The other part is the miniture O-Line we roll with. Part of it is the play calling (run-pass option on the 1 yd line anyone?) Part of it is the lack of a large WR. Plax would be looking good in an Eagles uni right now.
-TOL 23, you and I appear to have similar views on the Eagles. Totally agree with you on locking up McCoy. He’s a stud.
