This thread is dedicated to Jason Williams AKA White Chocolate, one of the most entertaining and electric players the NBA has ever seen…

When Williams first burst into the league, he was like a breath of fresh air for a league rife with stale stars like Tim Duncan and Allan Houston. He energized the city of Sacramento with his flair for spectacular passes, ankle breaking crossovers and deep 3point bombs. Williams helped usher in the streetball movement into mainstream American basketball, with many players trying to duplicate but never able to recreate.

One misconception about White Chocolate was that he was HIGHLY turnover-prone, often leading then coach Rick Adelman to bench him late in games in favor of Bobby Jackson and it is what evetually led to his departure from the Kings. While true he averaged about 3 TO’s a game while in Sac-Town (playing about 32min/game), it is still less than the career averages of Hall of Fame players like Karl Malone, Patrick Ewing and Jason Kidd.

Even though he later would find success as the lead guard on the title winning 2006 Miami Heat team, I can’t help but wonder what that Kings team could have accomplished had they not traded him. That was no doubt one of the most talented and exciting teams to never win a ring.

Jason Williams, now 36 (36!?) is retired and probably content with his NBA career. He came from the rough and tumble backroads of West Virginia to NBA stardom, and this fan would like to raise a toast for an amazing and fun filled journey.

Who’ll Have Room in 2013?: Projecting out the salary cap position for NBA teams is never an easy task. Things like team options, player options and options for early free agency are huge unknowns. Equally, in July of 2013 the NBA will set the salary cap figures based on the new Collective Bargaining Agreement formula, which gives a larger portion of total revenues to the owners. Based on how the league does financially, the salary cap could go down or remain flat because of the shift in percentages that kick in, in July.

  if he can find his rookie shooting form. Add in the return of three-point shooting wing Alan Anderson and the likelihood of sharpshooter Jose Calderon finding additional minutes in a two point guard lineup, and Ross’ opportunities to use his skill were under threat from day one. This Raptors’ training camp and preseason has been very competitive.

I envision the scene somewhat differently. I imagine White flushed with panic somewhere, his heart beating out of his chest, his knuckles whiten as his hands grip the chair he is sitting in, extra and unnecessary adrenaline coursing through his veins. Most likely on the edge of tears, White is praying and wishing that this debilitating and merciless fear that is quickly overtaking his mind would just leave him alone. “This was supposed to be a new beginning, a fresh start. Why is this happening… why now?” I imagine White asking himself, feeling some combination of agony and anger. For those that have ever felt the cruel clutch of anxiety, they know this scenario isn’t all that far-fetched.h34t534223

Frank isn’t too worried about the expectations of Drummond. He said it would be a long process, like it is for most rookies.

Much of the cast that supported Aldridge in past seasons is now gone. Blazers starters Gerald Wallace and Marcus Camby were traded away. Brandon Roy retired, but has come back this season with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Center Joel Przybilla signed as a free agent with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Even with Calhoun gone, the expectations are not going to change with the Huskies’ fan base and athletic department. They are accustomed to competing at a championship level and consistently being one of the best teams in the nation.

There are a flurry of questions in the minds of NBA fans in the wake of Saturday night’s blockbuster trade between the Houston Rockets and the Oklahoma City Thunder. Did the Thunder take a step back?
