 So Steven Adams is apparenty on the Trading Block…With OKC wanting a young player,Pick or picks and cap relief…

In all honesty hoping we aren’t as he is a good locker room guy,Knows what they organisation stands for,Is a fan favourite and is still young enough to be a solid contributor post rebuild…

But my guess is we are trying to go full salary shedding,getting younger or at least trying to get some picks out of any trade.

So with that being said do people have any teams that can think of that may make this happen…

Teams I think that may be able to hit this partially at least off the top of my head:

T-wolves they could do a Wiggins and a pick or two,say a first and a 2nd rounder for Adams and maybe a cheap average deal to make $’s work…Reasons T-wolves do this they have Okagogie,Covington,Their  rookie all that can play the SF/SF spot on cheaper deals…This also allows Town to move to the PF spot fulltime vs trying to play Center and getting beating up..Adams also may help cover Towns average defense up..OKC does this for the picks and the hope that Wiggins finally gets it..The only down side is OKC takes on a little cap doing this move.

Mavs…THJ,Justin Jackson and picks…

Mavs do this if they believe K.P is a PF not C..OKC does this for a little cap relief and essentially some picks.

Cavs Tristan Thompson,Ante Zizic and a most likely a future first with low protecetions as they really need to keep this years pick+ move one of their two guards ..

Cavs do this to get a Center to help cover Love and also get younger at this spot..OKC gets cap relief and a pick…The only issue is the the Cavs probably would have been better with one last trip to draft first..

 I think Adams does a lot a little things really well and will make a contender really happy.

I don’t really think there is a market for him at this stage of the year for several reasons and also don’t think the Thunder want to move him right now. I also think it is not really true that he is on the block as reported cause there obviously were chatters after the playoff exit about how to bring the team forward and when Russ and PG we’re still on the team, Adams and his contract were the obvious elephant in the room. The comments he made about that it effected him he read the rumors were related to June and July where the team was still ‘intact’ so this whole story is a little bit out of context. 

first of all his salary is hard to move and he has 2 years and 52 million remaining. That is a lot and the same Giannis and Gobert make about the same time so he is vastly overpaid for what his role was until now but this times might change now. With an increase to 15 fga per game with Paul running the show he might be a 20/12 guy this year and I could see him, Gallo and Paul all averaging around 20 ppg this season. 
The biggest reason why I don’t see Presti trading him is that Adams is kind of the last man standing and something like the captain of this squad right now. Paul is the biggest name but also new and not as loved by the fans as Adams is. It would really shock me if they trade him for Someone Wiggins or Hayward whose contracts aren’t any better with not much better production. 
 

To me Adams is not only a perfect pro and does all what he was ever asked for but also a fantastic personality and very well respected in the community. The reason why his offensive game stagnated and why his rebounding numbers aren’t really impressive is clearly the fact he put his teammates like Russ into the seat to do this. Some might see this as a mind that is not dedicated to greatness, I see this as the perfect pro if you take into account how the teams he played in were constructed. He just was never asked to expand his game and this is a knock against the coaches and the front office cause to me he has the tools to shoot jumpers and be a much bigger factor for them going forward. 

The only true teams to me that might me in position to need someone like him are the Kings, Mavs and Celtics in no order. I don’t see Kat fitting next to Adams and Wiggins is the opposite of the player the Thunder value and his contract flat out terrible. 
 

I don’t see them trading him for the reasons I just wrote and really believe he is exactly the kind of player this organization is loving and unless they really want to tank which is very unlikely to me cause they don’t really rely on their own picks going forward and the whole organization never showed me that they don’t want to compete under any circumstances. 
 

I don’t really know if I’m in the minority here but to me Adams is a MIP candidate cause there is reason to believe that ne might be a huge beneficiary of the teams turnaround and has the chance to showcase his talent for the first time in his career without the need to take a backseat for his superstar teammates. 

Maybe I’m wrong and Cuban makes an intriguing offer to nab Adams and the Mavs somehow are into contention but I just don’t see the Thunder giving up on Adams at this point to just shed a few dollars to get under the cap. Trading Schröder would be easier to do and would also solve the logjam at the lead guard spot while moving Adams would leave the team extremely thin up front.

The Thunder have said they want cap relief, a draft pick and a young player. I’d say the Spurs but hardly make trades. Sacramento seems a good fit. Wizards, Hornets or Celtics could use him too.

 Boston would be a great fit but how do you make it happen?

Ainge isn’t going to give up Brown or Tatum so it would likely be Hayward in any deal but he is owed $67 million over next 2 seasons compared to $52 million for Adams over same time period. But if OKC put Roberson into the deal and Boston sent one young piece and a pick it could work.

Adams’ salary matches Marc Gasol’s very well and the Raps may want to start theie rebuild sooner so getting a younger defensive anchor in could appeal. OKC may look for a pick but an instant saving of $27.5 million for 2020/21 season would also appeal.

 Apparently it’s Jaylen Brown & extras  for Adams in most talks. A big price, but Adams is a very good player and better teammate by reports. He’d be a good answer to Embiid, Sabonis/Turner, Gasol and anyone else out East.

A team I haven’t seen noted yet is the Hawks. They don’t have a quality center (probably starting Len) and Adam would help out their porous defense and would be a good veteran presence as he plays hard. Atlanta can use Parsons or Crabbe as the large expiring contract and they have a surplous of young wings that they can package one or two of them or some picks for him. It’s not going to push them into the playoffs or anything, but I think he’s a solid guy to have on a rebuilding team.

I was going down this thread like how has no one mentioned the Hawks yet. They’re the team that makes the most sense to me. All of their good young guys are on rookie contracts through at least next season, so he wouldn’t hurt their cap space. He’s arguably the best screener in the league which would do wonders for helping Trae Young operate and make plays for himself and others, plus he’s a super low maintenance teammate with good experience and leadership qualities. Every team built the way Atlanta is needs a guy like Adams.

Crabbe + Len or Bembry + top 20 protected pick or 2 2nd rounders would accomplish everything OKC wants in a deal. They’d get under the tax for this year, get 20M+ off the books next summer and get draft capital in return.

 The semi issue is this though you get a very average player who would sort of be useless back(Crabbe or Parsons)..

The other sort of issue we have is this we have far to many PG’s and SG’s which means it would have to be a SF this pretty much would be either Reddish or the 4th pick(who’s name I forget right now) which I don’t know how keen Atlanta is to traded them without seeing them play at least some games in the regular season to gauge who is the keeper of those two… 
 
But if both sides were open to it this is maybe a trade I would like to see happen the worst of Parsons or Crabbe(in their eyes) the player they are willing to give up out of Reddish and the 4th pick and a top 5 protected or top 10 protected pick(whichever they are more comfortable with) for Adams and 2nd rounder.

Adams would shore up the Hawks defense and give them some one to feed the ball down low to when Trae,Hueter,Whoever’s shot out of player kept-Reddish/4th pick and Collins shot isn’t falling. He is also young enough that he suits their timeline…

OKC does this to get future cap relief(not instant relief) the player will be sort of useless this season though,a young prospect to play the SF position and a future trade asset…

The Hawks would be a good landing place for Adams, it’s East to West trade or West to East so ticks that box. The Hawks have expiring deals to full bulk of the trade so the Thunder get instant cap relief for next summer and with buyout possibilities could save money this season too.

Presti would want some asset back and a lot of the younger Hawks would be off limits. They could offer a future first rounder, protected or right to swap picks with some protection etc.

The Hawks own the Thunder’s 2022 first rounder 1 to 14 protected and have a protected first rounder due from the Nets next summer so either or so combination of these can be used in the trade without the Thunder having to dip into their own first rounders.

The Hawks get a very good front court with Adams and Collins, keep their other key young guys. The Thunder save a ton of salary and free up cap space to take on other salaries for future assets and get some picks and/or pieces back.
