Just wanted to get some feelers out there for what you guys think the Spurs might do in the offseason after this season where their best player seems like he might miss basically the whole thing. Here’s a few things I’ve been considering:

    1. Trade Deadline – I don’t really see them doing much here, they never really swing trades much unless its for draft picks and I can’t really see them being buyers or sellers considering theyre in the 3rd seed slot right now even with out Kawhi.

    2. LaMarcus Aldridge – Looks like the trade rumors are finally dead now that he seems to be fitting in a lot better this season.

    3. Retirements – Is it possible that Parker, Ginobili, and/or Gasol retire this off season? I know Parker has had some injury troubles but hes stated that he still wants to keep playing even though they have Mills and Murray. I could see Ginobili hanging it up potentially and maybe Gasol though I’d like to think he might finish his current contract out and retire at 39.

    4. The Future – Leonard, Aldridge, Mills, and Murray seem like they won’t be going anywhere for a while. Kyle Anderson may be tough to keep if the Spurs pursue cheaper options at the wing spots.

    5. Player Options & Free Agents – Parker and I believe Forbes are both unrestricted and I honestly think they’ll both be brought back. I’m sure Parker would take a paycut to stay around at this point. Kyle Anderson is in the last year of his rookie deal and I could see several teams trying to pluck him away by making it too costly to match. Then finally, Green, Gay, and Lauvergne all have player options. Gay would be smart to stay at this point with this contender, Lauvergne may opt out for some more cash and Green may possibly do the same though I personally think 10 million is good for a decent 3&D player of his caliber.

    6. Potential Offseason Signings – Usually it seems like the Spurs typically stand pat and develop in house and overseas talent with the occasional but pretty rare signing of a player like Aldridge or a reclimation project like Gay. I don’t see the Spurs grabbing another reclimation project this offseason especially if Gay stays around though they may have some options. Hypothetically if Ginobili and Gasol retired and three player option players opted out the Spurs would have a pretty decent chuck of change it seems like to fill in some role players and maybe even grab a star. If these things happened they’d only be at around 60 million against the cap. Probably unlikely but I’d like to play around with some of the options…

Chris Paul – The biggest thing talked about last season was a potential Chris Paul addition. I have a feeling this probably won’t happen as I cant see him leaving Houston for the Spurs or probably anyone unless LeBron really pushed hard to build something but that would probably work best in Houston.

LeBron – This would be fascinating and I’d love to see how well he would work with Pop and Kawhi, and the other Spurs players but it really seems like a pipe dream and I can’t see the Spurs dumping resources to chase him potentially.

DeMarcus Cousins – Feels like a huge stretch for me because of the character cocerns and now the injury but I think the team and Pop could definitely get him to buy in, he just seems like too big of an unknown now with the achillies injury.

    7. Final Thoughts – I think it’s going to be a mostly quiet offseason for the Spurs who I think will probably just rely on improving by getting Kawhi fully healthy. I could maybe see them losing out on Danny Green, Kyle Anderson, and Ginobili(retirement), and possibly bringing in a player like JJ Redick to fill the hole of Green and Ginobili and most likely finding some random role players from the abyss to replace anyone else on the roster thats needed. Parker will probably resign with a deal maybe a little similar and more expensive than the ones Ginobili has been on for the last few years, and they’ll work on bringing Murray along in his development. HoHum but it always seems to work because we all know; Death, Taxes, Spurs.

P.S. Let me know what you guys think of this write up. I got a little free time this morning and this just kind of came to me so if you guys enjoy it let me know and I’ll do some more, and if you do enjoy it let me know other things you think I should add…

I feel Ginobili and Parker will return a ‘Farewell Tour.’ Also to help assist in the transition with the younger players as locker room presence.
