Numerous reports out there that everyone is on the block and Houston are aggressively pursuing trades. Word is Harden is unlikely to go however.

Chris Paul’s contract is beyond a joke at this point. I was looking for a team that would take him and I was really struggling until I noticed Dallas has a rather large trade exception from the Barnes deal – $21.2 mil.. is this right or have I read it wrong? Can someone clarify if they know more?

Even still, to wrangle a deal and pay him $145 mil or so til age 38 seems  too much even for Cuban, but he may be a good fit with Doncic and Porzingis. Not as good as some free agents, but if you are willing to pay and get him without giving up an asset..?

I don’t know who else Houston can punt. They’ll get interest in Capela and probably Tucker, Gordon can score but I don’t know how they re-tool around Harden. The moveable pieces suck.

Is it worth dangling Harden for AD?

 I don’t see anyone taking on CP3 contract..that would be just stupid! Clint Capela I can see maybe one of the small market teams who can’t get free agents like my Hawks.Would Atlanta be a good fit? Trade the 10th pick for him..John Collins turning into a stretch 4 (shot the ball really well last year). Trae Young could get him easy baskets and they’ll have the money..

There are still a few teams that could use and look to get Paul. If Houston is looking to gain some depth and some shorter contracts, it could be done. Some ideas based around these playes could work:

Boston (if Kyrie leaves): for Hayward

Charlotte (if Kemba leaves): for Batum and Biyombo

Chicago (if they don’t have confidence in drafting a PG): for Porter and Felicio

Detroit (making lob city 2.0): for Jackson, Leuer and Galloway 

Miami: for Johnson, Olynyk and Waiters

Orlando: for Fournier and Mozgov

Dallas: for Hardaway and Lee

Minnesota (if they think it’s time to get rid of Wiggins and Houston thinks they can turn him into something): for Wiggins and Dieng

These are just base ideas. Some sweeteners may have to be added either way.

 I was thinking the same thing. Heyward for Paul if kyrie leaves. Honestly Paul is the kind of point guard that might actually help Tatum and Brown get to that all star level. I know he’s older, but it’s not like Boston is a really uptempo team anyway. I know it will likely never happen , but I dont think it would be the worse thing ever.

For a team that had massive chemistry problems to trade for a problematic point guard who is older and injury prone, AND makes a ton of money…no way. That would give Danny another heart attack.

 You probably right. But unlike kyrie , I think Paul is a more traditional point guard.  I think that’s what the celtics need. And I think he’s more respected than kyrie

 Does that Dallas trade exception (20+  mil) mean they only need to give Courtney Lee?

 Nope, pretty sure I meant James Johnson. But thanks for telling me what I meant.. If I did mean Tyler, I wouldn’t have had to trade all 3 of those guys as Tyler’s contract is much larger.

 My guess: CP3 will prove untradeable, and since Morey has already signaled his dissatisfaction with his roster (Why do GMs show their hand like this — I’ll never understand), he will be forced to make a move, probably involving Capela and/or Tucker for expiring contracts + young prospects + draft picks.

The end result will be a brand-new Rockets team except for the backcourt of Harden and a resentful, petulant CP3. That will probably still be good enough for a 4th or 5th seed. But Denver, Portland and San Antonio will all leapfrog Houston as the primary challengers to Golden St.’s western conference dynasty.

 Dallas’s trade exception is interesting, it might not work for them taking CP3 given his salary owed but someone like Conley who has two years left might be of interest but would they have the assets Memphis want?

Capela to Hawks makes a lot of sense.

 Houston said everyone is available and although moving Harden is extremely unlikely, what if NOLA and Houston started talking about swapping Harden for 1st pick in the upcoming draft? Hypothetcially, what if NOLA asked Davis what it would take to get him to resign and floated the idea of trading the first pick for Harden? And lets just say Davis respounded that he would welcome a move like that and aggreed to resign. Now if you’re NOLA, would you consider that trading the first pick for Harden and if you’re Houston, would you accept/negotiate a trade like that? Interesting hypothetical scenario I think.
