Report: Dwight Howard prefers trade to Dallas Mavericks with Nets out

"Now that the Brooklyn Nets have effectively removed themselves from the Dwight Howard trade talks and acquired Joe Johnson, Howard’s new preferred destination is the Dallas Mavericks, ESPN’s Ric Bucher reported on Twitter.

Bucher noted that only the Mavericks and no other teams, including the Los Angeles Lakers, are on Howard’s list of potential teams to which he’d like the Orlando Magic to trade him. Early on Sunday, reports emerged of the Lakers re-engaging the Magic in trade discussions for Howard.

On Sunday,  Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Howard would only sign a contract extension if traded to “the one team on my list.” That team was believed to be the Nets.

Of the Lakers and Mavericks, Los Angeles would be the preferred trading partner for the Magic. The Lakers could offer young center Andrew Bynum in return, while the Mavericks don’t have the same young trade chips.

Howard still has a year remaining on his deal after waiving an early termination option in March that would have made him a free agent this offseason. The 26-year-old center led the league in rebounding this season at 14.6 per game, adding an average of 20 points per game to his stat line."

I don’t trust anything that Dwight Howard says anymore.  For all we know he could say tomorrow thathe wants to stay with the Orlando Magic and sign a long-term contract.  Friday he could demand a trade to the Bulls.  Dude has some serious serious issues.

Future draft picks are included in trades so much that it’s almost surprising when at least one isn’t involved in a deal. They’re valuable assets that can help make or break potential trades, but they can also make trades that appeared to be lopsided turn out to be absolute steals for the other team if they draft the right player.

Omer Asik – Pick originally owned by the New York Knicks
In 2007 the Knicks and Portland Trail Blazers completed a monster deal that featured Zach Randolph going to the Big Apple with Steve Francis, who was almost immediately bought out, going to Portland. The swap also included a 2009 second-round pick of the Knicks going to Portland as well.

Isaiah Thomas – Pick originally owned by the Chicago Bulls
There probably won’t ever be a case of a team regretting losing the 60th overall pick more than this one. The Bucks originally received the pick from the Bulls in a multiplayer trade that included Hakim Warrick, Joe Alexander and multiple picks. The 2011 second-rounder that was included turned out to be the steal of the draft: Isaiah Thomas, but the Bucks gave it up long before the selection was even made.

The moment Philadelphia 76ers fans have been fearing has already arrived, and training camp hasn’t even started yet. Newly-acquired center Andrew Bynum has already suffered his first injury setback and training camp hasn’t even started yet.

But Heat coach Erik Spoelstra wasnt going to wait nearly that long for getting his players back in the gym. After returning Sunday night, most of the players spent Monday, an off day, sleeping. But then it was back to work.

The talent disparity turned the game into a glorified practice for the Wolves, which is just what they needed. Love, Kirilenko, Roy and Nikola Pekovic all played at least 25 minutes, with starting point guard Luke Ridnour playing 21 while he works his way back from a back injury that limited his ability to practice in training camp.oi6796766

But Irving isn’t going to be making a habit of such goose eggs. In fact, after winning Rookie of the Year last season, Irving is looking to come in and take his game to another level, and he uses two words to describe how he’s going to do that: patience and efficiency.p98o7687

“I just want to come in everyday and try and make everybody better. You have to take the game that much more serious,” Irving said. “Going forward, especially going into my sophomore year, I just need to slow my game down and just be more efficient.”23423423423

“Last year we were just thrown into the fire right away. We didn’t have a true training camp, and this year everybody has a better chance of getting into shape going into the season,” Irving said. “You definitely get a better feeling of familiarity with each other and just get some continuity on the offensive and defensive end.”;980p78987

On the court, Curry played in just 10 games for the Knicks between 2008 and 2011 before catching on with the Miami HEAT this past season. Curry played in the final 14 regular season contests (including one start) for the eventual champion HEAT, but was left off of the playoff roster.

“Yeah definitely, my kids are getting older, we have real conversations now,” Curry said. “They have their favorite players and I’d like to be one of their favorite players – not just because I’m their dad. So that’s definitely added more motivation for me, in the summertime working out and everything. Just staying in the gym and watching my diet and all of that.”
