Striver347ParticipantWhat an amazing few weeks for Portland. Acquired Bazemore and Little, resigned Hood, and signed Hezonja (who has tons of untapped potential). Hezonja is a really talented, underrated 3D player with playmaking potential who really needs a situation where he can flourish, and Portland can absolutely be that place. We did lose Aminu, but his production will be replaced.
I couldn’t care less about what moves Utah has made, I believe Portland is easily the most talented team in their division and a team that will be underrated yet extremely potent in the coming season. Coupled with Collins and Simons continued development, it seems that Portland is a piece away from contending at the highest level. Very excited to see how the rest of free agency unfolds!

tblazer_NZParticipantPortland still needs a big to start in place of Nurkic as I think Meyers and Zach isn’t going to cut it as they are both foul prone.

tblazer_NZParticipantCurrent Depth Chart with Nurkic injured
1. Lillard/Simons
2. McCollum/Bazemore/Trent Jr
3. Hood/Little/Hezonja
4. Harkless/
5. Collins/Leonard/Labissiere
That is a weak front court and the only way they can strengthen it is with a trade or Minimum contracts now that Hood has used up the tax payers MLE.

OhCanada-ParticipantHarkless and Leonard got traded for Whiteside.

tblazer_NZParticipantThis trade supports my above statement that Meyers wasn’t going to be good enough to be the starting 5 until Nurkic comes back. This gives Portland the chance to bring back Nurkic slowly and make sure he is completely ready. Portland now need to bring in some solid bigs in behind Whiteside and Collins.

tblazer_NZParticipantFree agent forward Anthony Tolliver has agreed to a one-year, $2.6M deal with the Portland Trail Blazers, league sources tell @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium. Tolliver will provide a high-level shooting rotation big.

cohenbc1ParticipantAny chance they bring back Kanter?
With so many shakeups in the West, I think that a really good team that just decides to run it back is in great shape. Bazemore, Hezonja and a bigger role for Hood, replacing Turner and Aminu, upgrades their shooting tremendously. (Apparently Seth Curry is not in their plans and obviously he is a great shooter, but his defensive limitations and inability to play the 3 meant he was never going to get a lot of minutes on a team with Dame and CJ.)
I think they have a great chance to win the West.

tblazer_NZParticipantWithout Trades they can only give him the minimum as they already used the MLE and they don’t have his bird rights.
He likes Portland but I doubt he returns for the minimum.

r377ParticipantKanter signed for $5mill per season with boston. They traded for $27mill whiteside.
Am i missing something or does this not make sense ?

tblazer_NZParticipantThe offered the MLE to Hood and Kanter; Kanter took too long to agree so they when with Hood instead of possibly loosing both. Whiteside is an expiring deal and without Kanter they would have had to start Meyers Leonard and as a team that wants to get back to the heights of this past post season run, Meyers starting until Nurkic comes back wouldn’t cut it.
Whiteside is in a contract year so he has something to play for. Plus Portland was his second option in FA last time round so Portland is betting on him to be motivated.

r377ParticipantIf Lillard the choker really wants to win, they should of agreed for $30 to 35 mill, not the crazy $50mill !!!!

tblazer_NZParticipantLillard’s extension doesn’t kick in for a couple more seasons so who knows what the salary cap will be like then. They will still have a lot of money coming off the books next year so will be able to go after free agents then. If they can’t get any quality FA then they were never going to anyway.

cohenbc1ParticipantI don’t like the Whiteside addition. Zach Collins gives you much the same thing but he’s like 9 years younger and has a better attitude. I’d rather have kept Kanter and Leonard to platoon with Collins and eventually Nurkic.
