Why does it seem this 7 ppg shooting 40% FG is getting so god damn overrated by everyone like he could actually defend Lebron or AD ? He talks so much shit on the Lakers on twitter lol must suck to be the little brother to the Lakers I guess, but damn all those analysts are literally overrating him. He’s a tough energetic defender I’ll give you that, but that’s it, same can be said for alot of players.

Beverley is the perfect point guard to pair with ball dominant wings, spacing the floor, attacking close outs, defending the other teams’ best guard, and snagging a surprising amount of rebounds. His prototype is all over historically great teams, from Ron Harper on the Bulls to Derek Fischer on the Lakers to Mario Chalmers on the Heat. Every team with an elite, ball dominant wing should be looking for a Patrick Beverley.

If your just measuring by pure box score stats I could see how you could make that argument but if you actually watch the games you’d understand how valuable he is. He’s one of those guys that can set the whole tone defensively for a team with his ability to pressure the ball at the point of attack. He’s a guy that other players absolutely hate playing against. He won’t back down from any assignment and even if he can’t necessarily stop the best players in the game he will absolutely make them work for everything. Conversely, he’s a guy you love to play with because he isn’t going to demand the ball and is content with doing the dirty work. Plus he’s someone you know is always going to have your back. 

Sure, he has some glaring limitations as far as traditional pg skills like creating shots for others. He’s never going to be a guy you can run offense through, but no team is giving him a contract expecting him to be that type of player.  He understands his role in the league and has carved out a career from it. As was stated in the previous post, it has been proven time and time again that players like him can play extremely valuable roles on championship teams.

 Perople like him because he plays with heart and passion and works his but off and while he may be a little too loud on Twitter for my taste, I appreciate the tone he sets on the court. His energy and relentless attitude on defense is contagious just like the whining and walking around that some players do is contagious. …

He has also shot 40% from 3 the last few years and is career 38% so while he doesn’t score a ton, he helps space the floor and can be effective without chucking or taking up a lot of shots or spend a lot of time with the ball in his hands.

He’s not a great player, but he can be a key piece on a championship-calibar team, and every championship team has players like him.

after that understand the FG% are low for Allen and Bev not because they’re bad offensively, its because they put so much energy on the defensive side of the floor..while chipping at the opposing teams Fg%

 Tony was clearly a better defender much more versatile a could guard atleast 3 positions. Also he simply was not hyped or talked about as much as Pat Bev.  & that is b/c we have so many reporters who just do not understand the game the Only skills emphasized in Sports media in general are at the Offensive end & then that trickles down to Social media

Defensive ability is Massive – it is the great equalizer b/c so much of Defensive is forcing yourself to get into your man as coaches say & it’s not easy to fight thru screens & physically get up in the opponents grill every night or close out on jump shooters hustling just to force an angle change by one degree b/c that could be the diff between a miss & a make at the NBA level 

The players who Dominate at the Def end are just not appreciated enough – yet they do it anyway

Beverly is a guy opposing players just Hate playing against & that says way more about a player than a dude who strokes a few 3’s, avg 16 pts a game but opponents Luv playing against them b/c they defend no one
