    Just came out today…

Center – Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic
Guard – Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers
Guard – Jason Kidd of the Dallas Mavericks
Guard – Chris Paul of the New Orleans Hornets
Guard – Michael Redd of the Milwaukee Bucks
Guard – Deron Williams of the Utah Jazz
Guard – Dwyane Wade of the Miami Heat
Forward – Carlos Boozer of the Utah Jazz
Forward – Carmelo Anthony of the Denver Nuggets
Forward – Tayshaun Prince of the Detroit Pistons
Forward – Lebron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers
Forward – Chris Bosh of the Toronto Raptors

I think the team is solid but I would like to see a few changes. Jason Kidd seems a little old and a little slow, as seen in his post-trade games with Dallas, I would like to see him switched out for another big man as I think Paul and Williams would be fine handleing the load without him. D-wade could even play the point if the situation called for it. I would also like to Prince switched out for a better shooter. I know his length and willingness to play D will be an asset, but i think that with Redd being our only pure shooter that we might benefit from having another proverbial zone-buster.

I would have added another center. too many guards.

Kaman plays for German national team and will face the USA.  Will find out early if we do need a center.  In regular rounds we face the Gasol brothers, Yao Ming, and Kamen/ Dirk tandem

Yeah, this roster doesn’t really surprise me that much. However, I agree on what you both have said about Jason Kidd. It seems to me that if you already have Chris Paul and Deron Williams, that you don’t really need another PG, especially one past his prime. It sucks that Amare turned down the opportunity to be on the roster; he and Dwight Howard would’ve been a monster tandem in the paint!

I’m in agreement with leaving Kidd off this Team USA roster. Did Colangelo and Coach K not watch the Mavs/Hornets series this spring? I get the sinking feeling that Coach K will defer to the veteran Kidd while Paul/Williams waste away on the bench. Last I checked, Kidd is a horrible perimeter shooter (exactly the type of quality you DON’T want for international play) and has lost at least three steps on defense. Besides, it’s not like this team needs his brand of "veteran leadership." Everyone on this squad knows how to handle himself. With only three traditional bigs (Howard, Bosh, Boozer), what’s going to happen to Team USA when the front line gets in foul trouble? Remember how many ticky-tacks Tim Duncan picked up during his last tour through international play? Duncan is a much savvier post defender than anyone Team USA has, so don’t be surprised if Team USA’s bigs get increasingly frustrated as the tournament wears on. I’m excited for the inevitable Greece/USA game where foul trouble has forced Coach K to play LeBron at the 5. Call me crazy, but I would’ve invited David West ahead of Kidd. They could run it like hockey lines, where Paul/West play at the same time, with Williams/Boozer rotating in as a tandem. There’s something to be said about the pick-and-roll chemistry these duos share.

Watching Bogdan Bogdanovic last season, and in certain games in the WC, he looked NBA ready. A guy like Ante Tomic would also thrive. He is a 7’2" centre who can play. Only problem is he is already 27 yrs old.

It´s clear there’s a need for another center, like Chandler, Stoudamire, Camby or Kaman (Bynum would be considered in case he wasn’t injured)

yeah I guess just a courtesy adding JK as he is a vet of the team and has been here before helps with the experience, expect Derrick Rose to take his spot next olympics.

I agree theres a lot of guards but the international game is alot like the college game with guard play being huge and you can never have enough good shooters
plus Bosh and Boozer can both handle almost any centre for the internation teams strength wise anyways unless you talk about a guy with 7’0+ length which there arent that many talented ones out there

should be a fun team to watch no doubt

Yeah I agree, the team seems solid, but Dwight Howard seems lonely at the Center position, unless they are leaning towards Boozer or Chris Bosh to play at both Power Forward and Center. They got some explosive forwards and playmakers at the point. I think J-Kidd should have sat out because they already have some smooth and youthful point guards with Paul and Deron Williams leading the position. Yes, I agree that Redd is their only deluxe pure shooter on the roster. To tweak the roster’s firepower, they could use some outside shooters to pour some points from afar. Mike Miller would be a nice addition to help Redd out from behind the arc.

Kobe, CP3, Kidd, Williams, Wade, Redd. How are all these guys going to get PT?
I’m guessing CP3 and Williams are goig to rotate at the point. CP3 should be the starter IMO. Hes a better passer then Willaims is and with Kobe Melo and LBJ on the court we don’t need a scorer at the point. As for the SG I see Kobe being the starter. He is the best player in the league, so it only makes sence for him to start. Redd will be the 3-PT specialist.

Iverson, should have been at the tryout, should have been on the team. He is better than Jason Kidd, Deron Williams, Prince, Redd, Boozer, and wade. Look at his numbers and is heart, he puts it all on the floor, only in one part of a season he did not give it everything, and D wade was going through the motions all season. He could have scored 30, and had 8 assist every game without melo.

I can see where your coming from from I’d rather not have AI. I do think AI is better then 2 of the 3 PG on the team (J-Kidd and D-Will), but Kidd has experience and has won a gold medal before. As for Williams, USA wanted a young team that could group together and this would probably be AI’s only time in the Olympics where as Williams will be in 2 or 3 more of these. As for the other guys you named… Prince, Redd, Boozer, and Wade… Prince is there because he is a great perimeter defender. Redd does not miss 3’s especially from before the Euro 3 point line. They needed to get Boozer since they don’t have to many bigs, and lastly Wade has been there in the past and has some experience.

I’ve just read the article recently published on the US Team and the Olympics, and there’s some stuff I can’t stand.

Especially, this part: “Remember the days when Magic, Michael, and company could walk onto the floor surrounded by other Hall-of-Famers and just dominate? Well, those days are long gone. Through the globalization of the NBA and efforts by the United States to improve the international game, this country is no longer able to win glorified pickup games en route to the gold medal.”

I hate that sense of superiority and paternalism that appears so often in the American media.

The thing is, nobody would be thinking the same had Yugoslavia been able to compete united in Barcelona ’92. Those guys would have given the Dream Team (which wasn’t as perfect as many people want to believe) a serious run for their money, and nobody would be talking now about how they showed us the game.

USA was the basketball reference for European coaches for many many decades (many American coaches came to Europe to teach in clinics, many Europeans went to the USA and everything was generously showed to them), but ironically, not in the 90s (Yugos were far more influential), not afterwards, not in the near future. If anything, kids have tried to emulate the NBA guys ever since the NBA started being broadcasted in Europe (in many places since the Bird-Magic era in the eighties) or the Dream Team itself.

But talking about specific “efforts to improve the international game” is nonsense.

By the way, to rank the 2000 USA Team over the 1984 version is way out of place. Because we’re ranking Teams, right?
