Hoping to get some perspective from the Jazzaholic’s on this forum.

I know the Jazz faithful can’t be too thrilled with the way the season played out, but I believe in many ways that Houston was just a bad matchup for your squad…. and that you would have had a good chance of advancing had you played several other teams the first round. You have a really nice team in place. Including a DPOY of the year finalist in Gobert, an up and coming star in Mitchell, and a good head coach in Quin Snyder and FO leadership in Dennis Lindsey.

However, this offseason I think you have three interesting targets you need to consider pursuing that could really help your team become more matchup proof in the playoffs & be a bit more dynamic on the offensive side of the ball. One via free agency, one via trade, and one draft target.

1.) Re-kindle trade talks with Memphis regarding Mike Conley

• Yes, you will have to give up some decent stuff in a trade (at least 1 first rounder)….. but Mike Conley is a great fit on multiple levels with this squad. His game management is superb, and his feel for when to score vs. get others involved is elite. He is one of the best defensive PG’s in the game, and IMO still has plently left in the tank. He’s tough and can lead by example. I know he re-iterated a desire to head East…… but Utah should still roll the dice to get him.

2.) Offer Tobias Harris a max contract

• Tobias is a very good player regardless of team / situation. But Utah is such a great fit for him as a versatile, floor spacing PF next to Gobert. He would add some much needed horsepower as a dynamic small-ball four. They would have to make a couple moves to free up their cap space (doable)…. but I think Tobias’ best basketball is still to come & would absolutely love the prosepect of him teaming up with Donovan Mitchell, Rudy Gobert & a PG like Mike Conley as formidable foursome.

3.) Draft Tyler Herro if available. 

• Tyler may need a year or two to adjust to the size & physicality of the league, but his offensive chops are intriguing. He can score in a number of ways and seems to have good energy on both sides of the floor. Not saying he’s going to be a plus defender….. but he’s shown some flashes on that side of the ball that could help him become more matchup proof and stay on the floor longer if his shot’s falling. Seems like a competitor.

As things stand, Utah figures to have a little under $17 million in cap space. It could go up if Kyle Korver retires. I can’t recall if a teams gets back 100% on the cap if a player retires mid-contract. It is also half-guaranteed regardless, so I don’t see where they get to max slot space. It seems like a stretch to think that if Tobias Harris takes less than the highest offer that he will end up in Utah. I am concerned about Favors losing his mid-range touch. He has never really had range out to the arc, but his losing the ability to stick the mid-range has really made it difficult to play him and Gobert together. Jae Crowder is an easy guy to support, but he is best off the bench where it is. Marcus Morris might end up being a more realistic target on a 2-3 year deal.

Mike Conley has one more year and a player option, and will likely opt in. It would be cost-effective to take him on at his current max salary while Mitchell is on a rookie deal. Taking on an inflated contract is mostly offset if a team has rookie scale guys who play over their salary. The problem is I don’t know how Utah puts together a package that gets Memphis to agree.

in cap room if they let Rubio walk, do not pick up Favors option, and Korver retires. Couple of tough decisions for sure.

In my opinion Favors has trade value…… so not picking up his option and just letting him walk would be a difficult pill to swallow.

Would Utah have the guts to do that, without knowing for certain they could land a big name free agent? The Jazz do not have a history of landing free agents, but maybe that changes with such a talented defensive cast & an up and coming star in Donovan Mitchell.

A super interesting offseason is ahead for Utah. Could see some fireworks

They won’t have any cap room unless they let Rubio walk.He was abused by harden in round 1 badly. I don’t mean to hate on him, he doesn’t seem to have chemistry with the rest of the team. His shot is god awful and he doesn’t play much D. Maybe offer Malcolm Brogdon 15 mil and see what Milwaukee does? Jeremy Lin would also be a good fit. It’s going to be difficult to move Rubio and favors in a trade, even though favors is good. He’s just redundant to Gobert.

Rubios contract has expired.

 

Favors has has the some of the best efficiency and defensive stars in the league. There is too much overlap with Gobert but they should win the center matchup and be extremely efficient on offense in every situation. If Favors goes to the eastern conference I predict multiple all-star games.

 They do need a good PG. Conley will be 32 next season.  A good player but @ $30mill isn’t great value.

There are loads of decent unproven PG in the league.  Take a cheap punt on 1 or 2 of them. Delon Wright, Tyus Jones, Frank Jackson etc.

They do need another scorer, I like Tobias Harris idea. I think Bojan Bogdanovic is a FA also. Furkan Korkmaz & Hezonja could be cheap low risk options if they don’t have any luck getting a bigger name…

Marcus Morris is undervalued in the league, he would be a great addition to the team.

 Forget who thought of it may have been multiple people suggesting it but the best option I heard for Utah is Kemba Walker. Would be a great team but really, who wants to play in Utah. I think thats the last place anyone wants to play at this point because of a few bad fans creating a bad reputation. Feel bad for the good Utah fans.

I think the way the team handled the situation actually makes it a slight movement in the positive direction. I think there was already a bit of a reputation of “racism” mostly because Utah fans are uninformed about what some of the heckling can mean on other more divers areas of the country.

Playes now see how the organization is going to take care These situations going forward. That is a slight plus I believe.

 Definetely another PG that can shoot… I like Conley but he already said he does not want to be in Utah, he is 32 and has a terrible contract…Also he is pretty injury prone.

Tobias Harris would be great and Gallinari as a plan B could work well… At that point Favors would be gone, so they would need a decent backup center. 

I think Utah needs a good PG that can shoot from 3-Rozier would be a good option also; A PF that can shoot the 3 as well; a couple of benck players that can create their own shot… Maybe Grayson Allen can improve and provide a spark from the bench.

Is rozier a RFA?  If I may, korver is valuable. Sefalosha holds his own. They oughta resign both.Neto is better than Rubio.

If Korver chooses to continue playing, he is under contract. I don’t imagine the savings by waiving his partial guarantee comes into play because he has value. Guys who are locks to make 40% from three don’t grow on trees. He’ll never be confused with someone who can defend one-one-one, but good defensive teams have liked having him because he knows where to be and can function well when not left isolated. If Utah wants to make a run at free agents, I don’t think they will think twice about renouncing their rights to Sefolosha, Rubio, or Udoh. Rubio has value in a different situation. With Mitchell having more of the ball, his inconsistent (to put it kindly) shot becomes more of a problem. In an ideal world, Rubio heads to Sacramento to be Fox’s backup. With the roster they have, and their need for the point guard to set up the scorers, I think we would see the best of Rubio.

 Korver and Sefalosha are decent players but the Jazz need something to get them to the next step. What can they do to potentially compete with the Rockets and Warriors.

Positions of need for Jazz, starting 2 that can score and create their own shot to play alongside Mitchell in the backcourt. Also a stretch 4 is needed thus moving Favors to the bench, or trading him, Exum, Sefolosha and probably a future first for this stretch 4 or 2 to play alongside Mitchell. 

Utah doesn’t have the money to get Kemba, Conley doesn’t want to play in Utah so I see no point in going after those two. Rozier is a RFA and I think Boston will match whatever offers are made to him, besides DMitch is better than Rozier so just let Rubio leave, move DMitch to point and find a starting 2 to play alongside him, and bam you have a competing backcourt and no need to find a PG in free agency with an already depleting list of possible FA PG’s to go after!

I like Tobias Harris as a stretch 4 as well as Gallo, but an underrated one who has been linked to the Jazz is Mirotic. Any one of these guys would be great targets for the Jazz.
