With the pelicans in freefall, and reports surfacing that holiday is available, the nuggets are the one team that should pounce on this. The nuggets as presently constructed are clearly a step below the elite teams in the west, and they aren’t exactly a free agent destination. Holiday is a borderline all-star player, who would seemingly fit well on their roster. He would alleviate some of the playmaking responsibility from Murray in the backcourt, while giving them another proven scorer. Their defense wouldn’t drop off with him in the lineup, and he has playoff experience.
Any deal for holiday would probably be centered around Gary Harris and other assets. The question is whether Denver would have or be willing to give up enough to outbid other suitors for holiday. Malik Beasley and Michael Porter would undoubtedly be names discussed in any potential deal. Acquiring holidays contract would also have the potential to put them in the luxury tax in the future, and that is something ownership has avoided like the plague in the past.
Even though there are some obstacles here, I still think this is something Denver needs to explore. The chances of acquiring a player of holidays caliber through other means probably isn’t great and they need to strike while their window of contention is open.
