I have a question.

Who the hell is Robert Griffin III?  I haven’t heard of him all season except these last two weeks and suddenly he’s a Heisman finalist?

By the way, who’s your Heisman winner?

 He’s the star QB for Baylor. He is a exceptional athlete but one of the most accurate passers in college football and will be a first round pick if he comes out. He has started since he was a freshman but last year he got a medical redshirt so he can come back again next year. This year he has been on another level so I don’t know why you haven’t heard of him until the last few weeks. My Heisman (of the candidates) is Trent Richardson.

 RG3 is the qb for Baylor. He is a world class track athlete with a good arm. Made Baylor a tough team all year. I believe he is rated as 4th best qb in this draft by espn. 

 

He had an amazing year but Baylor lost a few games. I don’t know why he is considered the favorite to win. He wasn’t in my top 5. 

 

If I had to pick from this group, I would pick Richardson, followed by luck Matthieu rg3 and then ball.

I guess I haven’t been watching ESPN because of the NBA lockout, no college basketball, and how bad my Philly Eagles were doing.  Now that I the NBA and college ball are back, I started watching again.

But, yupyup broke it down. Sorry, was writing a different post. Robert Griffin III had amazing statistics and led a school who does not generally have a strong football program to a solid year. I feel like Andrew Luck did the same thing and had a better record, but RGIII has the highest QB passer rating in NCAA Football history and led his school to a 9-3 record. I do not feel it was a strong year for Heisman candidates, but Griffin apparently had "moments" that Trent Richardson and Andrew Luck did not. So, both guys with 11-1 records look to be runner-ups to Robert Griffin III.

Statistically, Griffin III had a better season than Luck, but I felt that Luck’s record and ability to deliver for his team were just as great and made him just as valuable. Apparently, voters did not. I guess I cannot hate on that, because RGIII was incredibly valuable, but I feel like Luck is probably was a better QB and was better under pressure. Griffin through a costly pick in Baylor’s loss to Kansas State and while he had a decent game when Baylor got pounded by Texas A&M (55-28), his getting pounded next week by Oklahoma State (59-24) saw him throw more INT’s than TD’s. 

But, he won his last 5 games, many times in dramatic fashion. I feel like he had lower expectations than a Luck or Richardson. Both had monster years as well, but they lost that one game that made voters and many others look at them differently. Richardson had a better year than Mark Ingram had in his Heisman win, but Ingram’s team was undefeated. Luck had better numbers than he did last year when he finished in 2nd place, but he also had a big loss to Oregon and many felt he should be even better than he was.

Well, Robert Griffin III had a major season and put up big numbers. I guess I can see how he wins it, but I will be very interested to see how Griffin does against a team like Washington (who was crushed by the likes of Stanford, Oregon and USC). I feel it was a bit of a down year for the Big 12 and I feel that Luck did a similar thing with Stanford that many feel like Griffin did for Baylor, in which he took a school that typically was not on the national radar in that sport and put them there. Luck broke all of Stanford’s QB records, but he threw more picks than he probably should have (9 to Griffin’s 6). Griffin’s Superman socks just pretty much sealed his winning of this award.

PS yupyup does know his football. Just do not ask him who is older between Marqise Lee and Robert Woods 🙂

So all this said do you guys believe he’s the best quarterback in college football?  Where do you see him in the draft?  How do good will he be in the NFL?

Best quarterback in college football. Best player in college football. Deserved the Heisman tonight. Here are my QB prospect rankings (almost consensus at this point):

1) Luck (more pro-style experience combined with an incredible feel for decision-making…reasons why I have him ahead of RG3 even though RG3 was better this year)

2) Griffin III

3) Barkley from USC

4) Lance Jones from Oklahoma

5) Cousins from Michigan State (Walt actually has him at 9. I love Cousins).

This season he was the best QB in college football because he has that dual threat ability and while Luck is also very mobile he did not run nearly as much as in the past and had less success doing so.

I think he will be a very good pro and he is worthy of a top 20 pick in my opinion, I wouldn’t even be upset if he went top 10. He’s very talented.

RG3 is actually a possible pick for us just outside the Top 5, #6 pick to be exact right now, because the value at any other position is not that great for us in the Top 10, besides LB which is what we need to address very bad. The only other potential pick is Vontaze Burfict in that range, but his stock is on the decline as of late. The "favorite" for us at LB is Luke Kuechly, but it would be a reach to take him that high, so it’s down to RG3 & Burfict.

My take on the RG3 situation me being a Philly guy would be to Tag DJack to trade him for a LB, because the value is still there for him, then draft RG3 as the heir apparent to Vick.

 I think Landry is ahead of Glennon. He won’t catch Bray (barring an injury or something) but from what I’ve seen right now most teams have dropeed him to 5th or 6th on their boards. I’d rather fight for 2nd (with Murray) then settle for 5th or 6th.

I was a DB so what Mathieu has done impresses me even more. I would take out Luck. Yes, he had a very good season, but I’ve already argued why I believe Barkley’s was better.

Well, that’s somewhat fair mah man. But selecting him as your winner (like FailedGrandpa) would be absolutely absurd. As I said before, he wasn’t even top 3 at his own position, WHILE playing against just horrid competition. Put him in a real confernence and no one even knows his name b/c all of a sudden he’s putting up pedestrian numbers on a 6-6 squad.

 I don’t think the drop off would be that dramatic, although I do agree that he would be around 3,300 yards rather than 4,700. And he’d have 27 odd TDs instead of 40 somthing, but he absolutly CREAMED competition, although the competition was so bad that he may not have been worthy of winning it, atleast have him as a finalist.

And I personally wish that Matheui was closer to the pack, cause 6 forced fumbles in 12 odd games is ridiculous, and he is primed to be a great NFL player.

I agree, dawg. Mathieu got hurt by being a defensive player. What he did this year was absolutely incredible. He also had a few returns for TDs.
