r377ParticipantWith todays win over Houston it extends them 2 games ahead of Spurs and Blazers for the 8th seed.
Will be well under salary cap this offseason with just Dillon Brooks needing a new deal from their main core players

RUDEBOY-ParticipantNobody expected them to be in the 8th seed in January. But Morant is special. He’s fearless and confident. And it’s rubbing off on the rest rest of the team. JJJ has played better recently. JV doesn’t get much praise. But he’s help them to rank number 1 I. The NBA on pts I the paint. Dillion Brooks seems to have gotten out of that sophomore slump. The team is 12-0 when he scored 20 pts. Clarke has has proven he should’ve went higher in the draft. Crowder’s defense is a little overrated. But he provides toughness. Great time to be a Grizzlies fan.

OhCanada-ParticipantAbout Dillon Brooks. Does that mean they should keep developing him or does it mean they should trade him and target a guy that can consistently give them 20ppg a night (easier said than done)?

BothTeamsPlayedHard-ParticipantAs the trade deadline approaches, we might see a few teams who look at the Iguodala and Hill expiring deals more favorably as more GMs come to a firm conclusion that they hate their roster. Then again, the Grizzlies have strung together 6 in a row and 8 of 10 to just get three games under, so if the weather turns they might not be in buying mode a month from now.

OhCanada-ParticipantThey have a very easy stretch the next month or so. 7 of their next 10 opponents are under .500 so they mybe able to get above .500 over that stretch and get a bit of a cushion on that 8th seed for the end of the season (post trade deadline).
On a side note did anybody watch that Rockets game? Must have been Hardens worst defensive game to date. Almost looked like he was making a point to purposely not play defense in that game, as if he told his team “Oh yeah well Im not playing D tonight!” If you didnt see it check out the Rockets/GRizzlies full game highlights, its kinda odd to see defense that poor in the pros.

r377ParticipantTough one on Brooks, he is playing for a pay cheque. Im not really sure just how good he is or actually could be…
Watched him quite a bit in college, thought he was a decent prospect who could make the league, but i never thought he would be putting up this type of ppg ( 20ppg in Jan).
I really just hope they don’t overpay him0

r377ParticipantYes i saw it. Harden was actually yelling at Ja Morant and daring him to shoot it.
Morant went 10-11 from field and 3-4 from 3
Harden went 13-37 and 5-19 from 3.
Harden’s defense was so bad, he wasn’t even trying. Disgusting for a professional athlete.0 -

HitsterParticipantI think they look to give Brooks a long term deal as he’s been a key starter for them this year. Crowder gives them good veteran presence but he might look to be on a contender. and if they pay Brooks they may not want to overpay him but could easily keep both.
There has been a lot of hype about Morant and he’ll likely be ROY but Clarke has had an excellent rookie year too and looks a great 6th man to cover a couple of positions.1+ -

RUDEBOY-ParticipantBrooks is a restricted free agent and Memphis can match any offer. Melton is also a restricted free agent this summer. Melton has moved ahead of Jones . I expect a few teams will go after him.Portland is a team team that could really use Agoudala.

OhCanada-ParticipantGrizzlies back up to .500 with a win against the Knicks last night. Morant got a double double and I promise you he did not even break a sweat. Morant was +42 the next best player was +19. He only played 28 minutes and attempted 0 three’s. I think he has a hand or finger injury because he didnt take a single jumpshot and didnt look to take it, he wasnt really dared to take one either and hes shooting 39% from three on the season . He hasnt been taking threes for a while now. The Grizzlies absolutely cruised to that win and they looked just as good as the Jazz, Thunder, Nuggets teams. Team chemistry is outstanding.
As far as Brooks goes I’m not surprised by him being a 20’ppg guy as of late. Hes emerged as their leading scorer. Early in the season he only struggled because he was very handsy defensively. He would rack up alot of stupid fouls which would sit him quickly. Even now he still has that habit thats why you’ll always see guys like Paul and Lowry expose him if they get him on a switch.
Jaren Jackson is frustrating as hell to watch. He forces the issue way too much. If he just followed the Grizzlies system he would probably score 20-ppg and increase his percentages dramatically but he jacks up the alot of bad shots and has tunnel vision. Also gets into foul trouble way too fast with his terrible discipline. Cant stand 7’footers that average less than 5 rebounds per game.
Brandon Clarke might be the NBA’s biggest hidden gem right now. This guy is an absolute monster and the perfect running mate for Morant. He is a very smart player, his time at Gonzaga served him well. Im not sure what they plan on doing with him moving forward, if they try to develop him as a 6th man of the year candidate and keep Valanciunas, Jackson and Clarke as a 3 man frontcourt rotation.
This team has a chance to get very good very fast. They may even want to trade their 1st round pick away and try to compete or at least get better now. The faster they intend to improve the faster they will improve. They have enough young talent where I would sacrifice my draft pick in their position.
Trade market seems dead as hell this year. Covington would probably be the best fit I can think of. I actually thought they would be a good candidate to trade for Marcus Morris but after last night theres definitely no chance of that happening, Crowder outplayed him and made him look like an idiot. OKC wont trade Galinari to them, OKC is 7th and they are 8th. Bertans would be a good option but Washington wants to keep him.
So yeah maybe Covo and a Minnesota 2nd round pick for Grizzlies 1st round pick.

They don’t own this year 1st rounder (Boston do .. top 6 protected only).0 -
