Mr. 19134ParticipantThe sources saying Iguadola was involved for a trade involving Carmelo Anthony were so far off. Doug Collins knows if he was to get Anthony it means win now, which also means keeping Iggy. Plus Iggy has proven he is a not the first option, but a second fiddle who would thrive playing alongside a SuperStar.
The Deal Rod Thorn propsed to the Denver was this:
Evan Turner, Thad Young, Jason Kapono (expiring contract), future draft considerations.
That would enable Philly to pair one of the best scoring wings in the league, with one of the best defensive and most versatile wings. It also puts Melo on a team with a young PG who is already proving himself to be one of the better on ball defenders in the league, and is a pass first glory for the team type PG. Melo also would love the fact playing with Elton Brand, who despite his huge contract, is still a better low post scorer then anybody the Nuggets have had since Melo played there. Check the stats. And Speights and Hawes who show a ton of promise are only 22, and at the very worse will average more points then Kenyon Martin.
Melo and Iggy are a match made in heaven on the wing. Iggy is not Scottie Pippen, but Melo isn’t Jordan either, but Iggy would thrive in a Pippen like role alongside Melo doing his best Jordan impression under who else but Jordan and Pippen’s former coach, DOUG COLLINS.
Denver gets Evan Turner who would thrive in a rebuilding situation allowing him to have the ball in his hands more then he would in Philly, and leaving his imprint on that organization. And Thad Young who still has gobs of potential would come in and fill the void at SF left by Melo. At the very worse Young is good for 17 points a game this year on a rebuilding team.
Denver now has Ty Lawson, Evan Turner, and Thad Young to build around and suddenly the future looks bright again.
Denver by all accounts stalled the Jersey trade because they weren’t satisfied receiving basically just Derrick Favors, and a few future picks back for Melo. They want a player that will come in and lead and eventually take on the leadership role of the organization something they don’t think Favors is capable of. Turner is tho.
Philly makes a lot of sense for Melo if he can just get out of his Empire State of Mind. The Flyers went to the Stanley Cup last year and seemed primed for another run. The Phillies have made it to the last 2 World Series, winning one, and have just clinched home field advantage throughout the playoffs paving the way for another World Series run. And the Eagles are always one of the more successful teams in the NFL and are making headlines this year with the Mike Vick back and are currently leading their division.
The weakest link in Philly right now is the Sixers. And with a rich basketball tradition that goes back to the start of the league, all the way up till Allen Iverson took the league and the world by storm and became an international celebrity there is no reason for Carmelo Anthony not to want to come here and put his name on this organization.
Holiday
Iggy
Melo
Brand
Hawes
With Lou Williams, Speights, Nocioni, Meeks, Songaila off the bench the Sixers have a nice combination of youth and veteran leadership primed for not only a playoff run this year with Melo but the potential for future growth.
It’s a win-win for both organizations now only if the Nuggets can get Melo to agree. The Sixers easily have the best offer on the table and the deal won’t have to include other teams which is another huge plus.

dylanhouParticipantIve been following all the Melo trade rumors for the last couple of days and reading any scrap i could get on it and this new one about philly is the best situation by 100 miles for both sides. so this is my in depth analysis of the whole scenario. NY is basically out of the question because they have no team at all theres no opportunity for success there it would be melo amare galo (pretty good but same position as melo) and 5 or 6 holes in a rotation. Jrue holiday is way way better than either a nj or ny point guard. evan turner at the 2 is a huge bust, he is really overrated so i would be glad to see him go that only adds to the strength of the potential philly team. morrow looks to be nice off the bench for nj as a gunner but jody meeks has that same kind of potential. Igoudalla is underrated and someone in a comment above hit it right on the head he is a defender and so versatile. and hes a big 2 so just athletically he would have an advantage. the one thing i would hate to see happen in this trade is for thaddeus young to go. he plays a huge role on this team and style wise is perfect for them as 4 or a 3 giving them basically or big or a small lineup whichever way they want to go with melo or ig at a 2 and thad at the 3 or ig and melo as the 2,3 and thad at the 4. Young’s can be a mismatch nightmare if the melo deal goes down. honestly i would rather see igoudala go than young because his slack could be picked up easier by the rest of the team. But this trade either way would make a powerful sixers squad ( and for any rap fans melo has the cassidy connect in philly idk if anybody has mentioned that as leverage ). Overall though nj and philly’s interiors are fairly even they are both kind of a young, unknown, not flashy or superstar type but solid go to work players. brooke has a slight edge but nothing that significant and he’s really nj’s only edge over philly 1 through 15. and everyone has been overrrating him as top 5…. what about joakim noah, al horford, dwight howard, tim duncan (depending what you consider him), and gasol and stoudamire as a tweener centers. maybe kendrick perkins. Also I would love to argue with anybody talking about melo as a top ?10? player and unproven and not a winner or a takeover talent. hes great. But overally philly is the top option for melo considering all the factors i dont think that there’s any way he could do better than this except the chris paul lottery ticket

Mr. 19134ParticipantI agree with you 90% dylanhou, except I don’t think Turner is going to be a bust, I just don’t think we need his skill set with the emergence of Jrue Holiday, I responded to you more in depth on the other version of the thread.
