Marcus Morris has agreed to a two-year, $20 million deal with the San Antonio Spurs with a player option on the second year, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

 

The Celtics were not able to bring Morris back, and Marcus won’t play with his brother in Detroit either. The Spurs are thin at the four with Rudy Gay, DeMarre Carroll and sometimes LaMarcus Aldridge next to Jakob Poeltl, so Morris should find minutes there and at the three in big lineups.

 

 

 

 

The Spurs and agent Mark Bartelstein of @PrioritySports reworked free agent F DeMarre Carroll’s deal to make it three-years, $21M, Bartelstein tells ESPN. The original agreement was two-years, $13M.

Marcus Morris is coming off his best year and there were games when he looked like the Celtics’ 2nd best player. But I don’t understand adding him when you just added a very similar player in DeMarre Carroll. 

Marco Belinelli’s expiring contract seems certain to get moved now, opening up some minutes at the 3. Even so, Carroll seems like an awfully expensive 10th man right now.

It is easy to forget that the Spurs won 48 games and took the Nuggets to 7 without their starting point guard and 1st round pick, and now have added Marcus Morris and DeMarre Carroll.

If San Antonio could re-route DeMar DeRozan somewhere, and let OKC have their pick of White, Murray, or Walker, it would be glorious to see Westbrook team up with Popovich for the sole purpose of taking out their enemies in Clipperland. We will know the deal is close when Zaza is signed.
