Malika Andrews: Asked about how he hopes his free agency will play out this summer, Malcolm Brogdon said, “I don’t know. We’ll see.” He continued, saying that his focus is to get better this summer and shed some weight.

 

Another NBA official, whose team has Brogdon on its free-agency radar, contends if Brogdon proves his feet are fine, he will then become a coveted free agent. “There are several teams that need a quality guard,’’ the official said of the 26-year-old Brogdon. “I would say he’ll get between $14 million to $16 million. That would be my guess.’’

 

I think alot of users on here know I wouldn’t overpay for alot of FA.

$14 to $16 mill.  I thought he might get more than as an offer ?  With this day and age of crazy owners overpaying, I was thinking he might get close to $20 mill x 4 seasons or $18 x 5 seasons.

What do you reckon he will get on the market ?

 I’m not sure what he’ll get in FA, but to me, he’s a winner, a guy who may not be a sexy pick-up, but a player who will help a team win basketball games. He defends, he shoots, he makes good decisions. He’s a championship caliber player IMO.

I could see a Noah/Deng/Hardaway contract, 71-72/4.

Ultimately he doesn’t sign his offer sheet and get that 5th year from the bucks(80/5).

The dummy bledsoe got 70/4 and he’s 29.

I saw an article on Hoops Hype (i think) that said he’s going to get offered 4/80 at minimum from Philly. He’s quite seriously going to end up cheap even at that price. He is a winner, defends very well, plays both guard positions, can start or come off the bench, shoots 50/40/90 and by all reports is a well liked guy. Throw in that it will upset Milwaukee financially if they have to match and I would not be surpised if someone even goes crazy and considers the max.
Dallas should be targeting him and Horford. Theyd be a really strong duo to add to KP and Luka.

 I think a 4 year 44mil deal or 5 year 55mil deal if he resigns with Milwaukee is a good deal.

He’ll get that 20mil range I think.

 Actually you’re right Kobyz. Dumars was an all star many times over. 

I am struggling to find something that he can’t do well. I don’t know what else I’d want my 2 guard to do.

A team has no reason to give Brogdon a $14-16 million per offer, because Milwaukee will match it without giving it a second thought. Teams do not benefit from coming in second in a free agent chase. If a team wants to get him, they have to make an offer that puts the Bucks in a bind.

Let us just say for argument sake that the Bucks are budgeting Middleton for something in the range of a 5-year, $150 million extension, not a max deal but max-ish (I guess a reasonably realistic compromise on both sides for comfort and competitiveness). They can already see down the line to what Giannis will be eligible for in a couple years. A number north of $20 million per, especially if it is backloaded, probably makes the Bucks think long and hard about whether life with Pat Connaughton (who filled in capably while Brogdon was out) would be that bad, and if it would hinder their ability to remain a contender in the East. Realistically, a max-ish Middleton deal, Giannis at his number now and what is expected down the road, and a $20 million Brogdon puts the Bucks in a situation where no one is beyond the rookie scale or MLE.

Someone with cap space will throw a big offer at him (somewhere in the  18-20 million a year range) and force the bucks to match if they want to keep him. You see it happen almost every year where desirable role players in restricted free agency wind up getting overpaid. Not that Brogdon isn’t extremely valuable to Milwaukee, but they are going to have to think long and hard about keeping him at that price. My guess is he’ll be playing somewhere else next season.
