 During this Summer League process the one player that has been the most interesting to watch is Luka Samanic. He has an amazing skillset at 6’11. He is very mobile, can handle the ball, pass, and seems to move well off the ball. The way he cuts and creates space is really unique for a guy his size and its a joy to watch despite how inexperienced he is at this point of his development.

The one knock on this guy is his wingspan. Despite measuring in at 6’11 (height) his wingspan is only 6’10.5. Alot of people would initially veiw this as a negative but watching him play I think it provides him an advantage on the offensive end. His posture while handling the ball and his shooting form is great and he’s not as clumsy as alot of those guys with 7’2 plus wingspans. 

Hes not playing tonight vs. the Raptors but I saw all his games and saw pure talent. Very unique. At times he’s shown me "flashes" of Andrei Kirilenko, other times he’s shown me flashes of Pau Gasol. Really intrigued by what the Spurs decide to turn him into. A SF, PF, C? The sky’s the limit for this young man and I have no doubt he’s going to be the next Spur prodigy.

Totally on point! I would love to see Pop try to make him a big wing, that way he wont have to bulk up too much and they can take advantage of his size on the perimeter. I’m not a Spurs fan per say but they are very well positioned to be contenders for a very long time.

Add Bryn Forbes, 25, and Spoon, 22, to the mix.

The Spurs needed to get younger, more athletic and better on the perimeter and at the wing positions. They’ve done all that … to me, I feel like they are building something the old fashioned way and with Buford and Pop, it will be interesting to see what comes of things.

 This is a really underrated squad. You guys have mentioned 7 young players with talent, plus they still have DeRozan, Aldridge, Mills, Carroll, Morris, Poeltl, Bellinelli and Gay. There’s no drop off when they hit the 2nd unit.  I haven’t seen Chimezie Metu play in a long time either, so I don’t know if he’s improved but he’s only 22. Aldridge has a partial team option in his final year so he can be on as little as 7 mil. They are positioned really well going forward, but I actually think they are still a 50 win team now and could finish as high as 3rd in the West.

 Watching Pau Gasol the last couple years with the Spurs it looked like he had short arms too — I don’t know if that’s true but he couldn’t seem to get a shot off in traffic to save his life. Maybe he had just become too plodding.

Years ago during the end stages of the Bird era, the Celtics ended up with a lottery pick one year and took a guy named Michael Smith from BYU who was supposed to be the next Bird — he had been a huge scorer in college. But he practically had T Rex arms and was slow. I remember it was painful watching him get shot after shot rejected, sometimes by guys who weren’t even in the TV screen frame when he started his shooting motion. He crashed out of the league after just a couple years.
