 I think he can make it in the HoF. I mean hes got the most bench points in NBA history, probably retire with the most 6th man rewards and I think that needs to be honoured. So does he make it in?

 Obviously we can only speculate. Between him and Jamal Crawford, I’d love to see both in the HOF!!! They’re so fun and they’ve added so much to the game. Throw Jason Terry in there also, since he has hardware and a career of incredible play! Manu obviously will enter the HOF between being an ambassador for his country and hardware, but he also helped redefine what it means to be a 6th man as well.

 

While being a bench player was once an insult, it’s now fashionable and understandable. "Depth" comes from acknowledging players like them and I really hope they not only get their names mentioned down the line, but actual admission in the HOF.

Interesting point but I just don’t see how he can be a legit HOF candidate as he has had no All Star Games, No All NBA nods, hasn’t been on any title winning teams plus his career points total is only just over 13,000 points currently. 

He’d need to win a title and get near to 20K career points to have any shout of HOF imo.

Yeah the first 8 or 9 years of his career he averaged like  12 ppg.  Lou’s goal should be to play for like 22 years in the league.  Maybe he gets a couple titles somewhere along the line

 Lou has played his best basketball since he turned 30 and has been very durable so I could see him playing well into his mid even late 30’s. He’d be the sort of guy when he next hits FA who would be on any contender’s shopping list if he could agree terms, so I could see him getting a title shot or two before he retires.

arvydas sabonis is in the hall of fame And did nothing in America. Bill Walton finished 1 out of 10 season and had much hype but no real numbers. ………point being anyone can make it lol

It’s the basketball hall of fame… as in world wide. Not just the USA. Bill Walton is arguably one of the top 10 players of all time, however brief. Sabonis was one of the he first players to escape Communist Soviet socialist republic (USSR) now known as Russia. He was a rookie in his early 30s. I think he probably was dominant. Not sure if anyone saw him or if he competed in the olympics. Probably not, Socialist Soviet Union was a hermit stayed much like North Korea today.

I don’t know bout it. I mean, this logic may be flawed, but should we look at a 20ppg scorer off the bench different from a 20ppg starter? Him being the best 6th man ever is his main ticket to the HOF, but any top 20 player in the NBA right now can score 20ppg off the bench. It just so happens Lou comes off it.

I think it would be a very tough sell. Ginobilli will get in primarily being a 6th man for most of his career. However, he also won championships, made all-star teams and was an international legend in addition to his nba work. Lou will doesn’t have any of those credentials. He will go down as respected for somewhat revolutionizing the idea of bench scoring, and maybe even be honored with a plaque or something somewhere in Springfield for winning the most sixth man awards or scoring the most points in history off the bench. I just have a hard time believing the writers would vote him in, especially with so many other candidates who have had superior overall careers currently on the outside looking in.

 Do Bench minutes even really count anymore? The traditional role of a 6th man is honestly hard to quantify with someonthing like bench points to me because a lot of these times guys will play more minutes than a lot of starts especially with NBA teams starting to really cut down on star and starters minutes in general. Lou is really a bench player in name only. Williams and for that matter his teammate Montrezl Harrell averaged the 2nd and 5th most minutes for the team in general. I’m not big on this whole 6th man thing anymore and if he was a starter wouldn’t consider him a hall of fame player so I don’t think we should in general. The guy preforms like a near all star but is literally a "bench" player in name only. Starts don’t really mean anything to me as far as stats because there are even handfuls of guys every year who are starters but then play like 18 minutes a game. Derrick Favors started over 70 games yet the guy only played 23 minutes… is that really a starter when youre not playing starters minutes? It’s even more so highlighted in this new NBA environment where player rest seems to be paramount and that benches are much more productive and positions are much less defined. I’d honestly prefer to get ride of the entire stat in general and just have games and minutes played. I guess maybe its a respect thing for NBA players but I don’t understand how its anything but a misleading metric that people can use to make players sound better or worse. I mean look how this type of thing screws with guys who are considered former stars. Carmelo really didn’t want to come off the bench and that ended up hurting him more than his franchises.

I guess I’m a little off topic but my point is as jr roxas said I don’t think he’d be a hall of famer as a starter so he shouldn’t be one just for being one of the best bench guys ever. Unless yall want to start a bench player hall of fame

The best players of their generations become hofers. Lou Williams is a nice story whose contributing to the success of his team. Hof???
