armchairgmParticipantThe Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers have voted to boycott the rest of the playoffs. Every team besides Lakers and Clippers voted to continue playing.
Miami’s Udonis Haslem spoke and essentially told everyone in room that — without Lakers and Clippers, how will season continue? LeBron James walked out. Rest of Lakers and Clippers exited behind him.

sniperParticipantSources? Will some teams boycott and others play, or will every team go by the majority decision?
Haslem is right if he means that without Lakers and Clippers, the rest of the playoffs is a joke. Eventual champ would have biggest asterisk of all time.

bt102ParticipantIt will have a big asterisk but I can tell you not many teams are gonna care. Especially teams in the West like Houston. With Denver on the brink of elimination, they could see Dallas in the finals just like 2k LOL. Or even a injured Utah team.
We will see what happens though. I’m going in with the expectation that the season is cancelled again though, especially since the LA teams bring in a good chunk of that revenue. Whatever happens, I’m alright with it. I will be annoyed if a lockout happens but it’s whatever, if it’s for the greater good, then sure.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantIf both the lakers and clippers are voting to end the season than the outlook for the season to continue isn’t good. While I clearly respect the message that they are sending here, I just have a hard time seeing what the end game is here and what they are really hoping to accomplish by not playing. Do they really believe racism in America and in the police force will suddenly end if the nba shuts down?
If the players choose to end the season they are only hurting themselves and the fans that pay their salaries and welcome the distraction that the game provides. The financial implications if the league willingly shuts down will be enormous. No one gets paid, teams lose money and contracts have to renegotiated most likely. TV contracts are forfeited. As much as some fans might appreciate the gesture and the message it sends, there will also be a large percentage who don’t and completely turn their back on the league. If it’s for a greater good ok, but what really is the greater good here and what will be accomplished here in the long run? I think they need to think long and hard about that. There platform and ability to speak out for change is just as strong if they are playing than if they aren’t.
No one is going to fault the players for stepping away for something bigger than basketball, but if they really believe that this will have a longstanding impact on society, I have a tough time seeing it.0-

OhCanada-ParticipantThe fact that these teams are using their platform to stand up to police brutality and racism is the first step and no matter how salty we get that there is no NBA it has to be honored. However these guys don’t seem like they have a clear message, any demands or goals by shutting down the season. Sounds like (from what the reports say) they are just frustrated and don’t feel like playing anymore.
Lebron storming out of the meeting is very irresponsible and does not help fight these issues.

armchairgmParticipantThey are playing games back on tomorrow. I bet once players took the night to start thinking about the financial ramifications boycotting the rest of the season would have on their future earnings they decided not to. Just like the financials were the reason they went to the bubble in the first place it is great the players want to take a stand, but realistically none of them (maybe a few) are willing to risk generational type money.

OhCanada-ParticipantOr they decided boycotting the Finals would have a larger impact.

HitsterParticipantThe players were right to make their stand but the East was unaffected by any boycott and might other teams seized the chance to win.
