 Kemba Walker signs 4 year deal with Celtics. What ya guys think?

He’s a great get after losing Kyrie. Kyrie is slightly better but when you factor in the personality not meshing this should be a step up for the Celtics. Now if course the blame Kyrie excuse is out the door for Boston so time for them to put up

Seems like D-Lo is out of the door for the Nets too so Kyrie seems to be Brooklyn boud. Good luck with Kyrie and his track record of being never really pleased about his situation and his durability.

I think it’s a terrible signing. I THINK Kemba is a better teammate than Kyrie, but he is also a lesser version of what they just lost without the benefit of Al Horford being there. They should have just went all in on the young guys and focused on their development. Kemba is best with the ball in his hands and when he’s scoring. That decreases the amount of possessions guys like Tatum and Brown get. I believe that he will do whatever is asked of him and willl have an easier life with the upgrade in talent around him, but it’s not going to be enough to improve them. Someone like Brogdon would have been a much better fit and cost less.

I disagree with you, I see why you think that Kemba is a lesser version on Kyrie but that’s because he’s been in Charlotte ever since they drafted and never gotten better players around him so he had to do all of the scoring just to keep them afloat, but in all reality he’d be willing to share the ball with Tatum, Brown and all their other players too, just never had the chance to in college or pros now he will. Celtics can still sign a center to replace Horford with their mid-level exception.

I like Kemba a lot. He plays hard and you can tell he wants to win, but he is definitely a lesser version of Kyrie in every way except for personality. Kyrie is younger,  bigger, a better defender, better passer, a better ballhandler, superior shooter, better finisher. I have not seen many guys that able to put together what Kyrie can offensively. When the Celtics traded for Kyrie it was a mistake and this is a mistake although for different reasons. I get that Charlotte is/was a mess and I don’t see Kemba being selfish, but he’s not the guy that helps the young guys grow on the court. There were better fits available and many of those younger.

Replacing Horford with some random midlevel guy isn’t going to come close enough to replacing what he provided. If you want a big you need Heyward to bounce back and hope someone is willing to take his contract.

It’s gunna be fun to see Kemba in some meaningful games.  Dude had the most clutch run in college history. I think the Celtics got better here but gotta see how they replace Horford.

It’s going to be impossible to replace what Horford provided for the Celtics.  Assuming Boston signs Kemba using cap space all Ainge will have is the Room Exception (4.7mil) to sign a big man.  The quality of big they get will be determined by how the market shakes out.

Worst case scenerio I like Daniel Theis and think he can handle the bulk of minutes at Center for Boston. I think he’s primed for a breakout season. He’s not a good rebounder for that position though but I think he can do some of what Horford provided at a much cheaper price.

My concern is he gets bullied by Embiid pretty easily.  Losing Baynes and Horford is going to be a huge problem when it comes to defending bigger centers.

 Big problems up front for mine. Horford was the glue to this team. Losing Morris and Baynes too are major. I think Robert Williams will be a surprise this year. I think he’ll start and be a really good player for them moving forward, but he’s not going to play big minutes. They need at least 2 guys that are going to play 20+ minutes so I’m really scratching my head at throwing such big money at Kemba. Quite honestly, for the low risk it would’ve been, I would have thrown IT a low cost 2 year deal.

 Trading Baynes was a loss as he did a lot of the heavy lifting and Horford’s loss will be felt too hugely.

Did Charlotte ever consider making an offer to Kemba but as he would have been available to take a $221 million 5 year super max, it was hell of a lot of money to commit to a player on a lottery team.
