UFC tonight with andersen silva fighting yushin okami. Silva hasnt lost in about 5 years and other then his fight vs chael sonnen, he has made every opponent during that stretch look inferior. He is widely considered the #1 p4p fighter in mma with only gsp as a contender for that throne.
On one side i dont like andersen cocky atitiude so i pretty much pull for everyone who fights against him and even though i have no strong feelings for okami, iwill do the same tonight hoping for the upset. However there are a handful of fights i want to see for andersen so if he wins it will lead up to some more exciting matchups in the next year.
Here are some possible matchups for silva i would like:
Chael Sonnen: Sonnen beat the crap out of andersen for 23 minutes winning every round up until the 5th and final round was ticking down and chael was submitted with a triangle choke. But Chael did the unthinkable and made silva look human. Plus chael talks tons of crap about silva and anyone who doesnt want to see this fight is delusional. But chale has his own tough matchup in brian stann to go through first.
Dan Henderson: Hendo has been on a tear recently and just knocked out legendary heavyweight fedor emelienko a month ago. He is an mma legend and gave silva atough fight there first time. This would be a lot of fun.
GSP: the super fight that everyone wants between the top 2 p4p fighters who have been not only winning but just dominating everyone in their paths. GSP would hav e to move up a weight class to make this matchup happen and would be at a size disadvantage, but if anyone could overcome that it is gsp. ANd he has the tools to beat silva. His wrestling is second to none which is silvas biggest weakness and he has the footspeed and high IQ standup to stay out of danger on the feet and not just stand in front of silva hwile he does his highlight reel kickbocking.
Truth is silva is the favorite in every one of these fights but at 36 he is getting up there in age so it will be fun seeing if anyone can take him down.

also this is ufc’s first rip back to brazil in about 13 years. The ufc was started by the brazilian gracie family and MMA is huge there. Brazil and USA are the top 2 MMA nations in the world and it is good to see the sport going back there for a show

raybeasParticipantMMA fighter I have seen. Sonnen was the first to make him look human. I think Silva may have taken him lightly, and almost paid the price. Watched Silva make Forrest Griffin (former 205lb Champ) look silly and outclassed last night. I think Silva’s only real challenge is to move up to 205 full-time. I don’t think GSP could handle Silva’s strength, and Silva’s BJJ would counter GSP’s wrestling (lay-n-pray). I’d like to se him take on some contenders at 205 and see what he could do.

there are still some good fights for silva at mw which i listed 3. The only fight at 205 that really makes me excited for silva would be current 205 champ bones jones. That would be epic and bones is probably the only lhw that i would pick to beat silva.
