Lakers Considering Joakim Noah, Dwight Howard, Mo Speights, Marcin Gortat

 Dwight all the way for me but I didn’t watch Noah play in Memphis. But Dwight played very well for the Hornets couple years ago, also seemed to embrace his role on the Wizards. If he accepts his role as a rebounder shot blocker, then he’s a pretty valuable pick up..

 If Mo Speights is still the same guy he was with the Warriors a couple years ago, I think I’d take him. The dude was just a super-efficient scorer who came off the bench firing. I think he averaged 10 points in 15 minutes per game during their first championship season. He can hit 3s too, and big men who can shoot thrive next to LeBron.

Whoever they sign from this group will be the third-string center after AD and McGee. He’ll get 10-15 minutes a night at best. McGee will play when they want a rim-running, shotblocking and rebounding big in there. Might as well get somebody with a different skillset (which is also one they could definitely use).

 dont the lakers already have a center in anthony davis? and javale mcgee is the backup? mcgee was solid last season…….the lakers say they plan to use lebron,ad and kuzma in the frontcourt….And there was talk of using Kuzma at the 5 during certain moments games…..

and i dont think it’ll sit well for Howard if he’s not a major part of the rotation….Even though i feel he’s the guy they’re going to sign…

Joakim Noah is injury prone,but showed last season with the grizzlies that he can still be effective when healthy (7pts & 5rbs in 16 minutes a gm)..he’s a high energy,high iq player that can pass,rebound and defend..and he’ll be willing to come off the bench…

Mo Speights- He’s been out of the nba for almost 3 seasons..A few years ago Speights would’ve been the perfect compliment to Lebron & AD..A guy that could spread the floor…But his best days are behind him..Plus he had a feud with Lebron a few years ago..

Martin Gortat looked lost last season with the Clippers…During his career he was a guy that could protect the rim and score inside …

If the Lakers are playing the Nuggets, is AD going to say, "I don’t want to guard Jokic — that would be playing center. Let McGee guard him while I guard Millsap"?

If they are playing the Clippers, does he want to chase Kawhi or Paul George around the perimeter all night, just so he can call himself a power forward?

Does it mean the Lakers are never allowed to play smallball on offense and put four capable shooters on the floor with LeBron?

Center is a mostly meaningless word. I don’t know exactly what AD has said about it, but if he literally insists on not being the tallest player on the court for his team, I think that raises some questions about his commitment to winning.

 I dont know what it means exactly. Guess he doesnt wanna constantly have to box out the biggest guy on the opposing team? Gaurd the post constantly? Steven Adams beating you up one night, Joel Embiid the next. I dont know thats all hypathetical but this is what he said.

The physical toll of taking the bumps and contact of a true center has never played to the strengths of Davis. Similarly, a lot of people can argue LeBron should live on the low block, because he is unguardable with the ball and two feet in the paint. Worst case scenario, he goes to the line. It is also more tiring, so he prefers playing more point and guarding more perimeter players. You get 35-40 minutes per this way, probably closer to 30 the other way.

Let’s be real. Teams, especially when the season gets real, aren’t going to want to play center-less basketball against the Lakers. If the only full sized center the Lakers have is McGee, they will want to go big and bang on Davis to wear him down. It is Steven Adams constantly putting his forearm in his lower back. It is having to keep Boban from just walking straight to the rim. It is every game those little burdens of being outweighed by the guy matched up against you. Teams should be built to cater to the strengths and cover for the weaknesses of your best players, not to try to recreate the way some other team was successful. The Lakers need cover at the center spot to best position Anthony Davis, plain and simple.

 If the guy is going to be pretty well down rotation then I’d probably go for Noah as he is a high character guy and wouldn’t cause any friction.

 I really just wanna see Noah and Lebron on the same team. Those postgame interveiws with Noah when he gets 3 questions a night about Lebron would be entertaining as hell.

As for the players chosen  the most healthy players gets first look.

Then you  go for the player that won’t overlap what you already have…

Dwight is essenttially Javale mcgee. With a broken down body….There is a reason he played few games with wizards.Also locker room rep is average/bad.

Noah or Gortat both bring different skills to the team and could fit whatever role asked , but the problem there is Noah looked washed with the Knicks but alright with Grizzlies…He does have a lot of the skills LBJ likes but would you start him or Javale. Is it injury recovery or age also that made him look average..

Gortat looked averarage since he left wizards but does give you shooting which is something Noah is average/bad at…

Mo is done he should have never left GSW…But $ talk so I guess thats why.

So I personally would look at Noah and Gortat and go with the least washed that of those two.

 I understand that Dwight has been a headache throughout his career but this would be a very low risk signing for LA. Probably a min deal and the lakers could just waive him if he causes friction. He needs the lakers more than the lakers need him right now. Even though he is not close to the player he once was, he still easily offers the most upside of this group imo. Even though I fully expect Davis to see a decent amount of mins at the 5 (whether he likes it or not), you can’t count on him playing every game and it’s never smart to rely on javale McGee too much. They need to sign somebody who can be comfortable with a smaller role but also can be effective in a larger role at certain times if necessary. If Howard shows he’s healthy, I think he’s worth the risk (and it really wouldn’t even be much of a risk).

 The Lakers should sign both, if either causes issues, you cut them.  I think both have great talent but have fallen out of favor, but with LeBron he might get the most out of these guys

 It may not be a popular opinion but the Lakers could look at someone like Faried who plays hard, rebounds and rim runs. He’s a little bit small and doesn’t really protect the rim but he could fill a role.

Speights. Mejhri is also out there. there’s probably 30 centers out there I would sign (before Howard or Gortat or Noah). But there tied up overseas?

i’d take pau or nene over those options.  yeah, they are old bones but they add more locker room prescense and can still do stuff with 10-12 mpg.
