I had an idea that might be of interest to the Grizzlies. If the Celtics lose game 5, then I think it is a lock that Kyrie Irving bolts for another team in free agency. So they’ll be in the market for a point guard (no, i don’t think Rozier is the right long term solution for this team).

Boston potentially has a plethera of 1st round draft assets this offseason (Memphis pick, Clippers pick, Kings pick, Own pick). There are protections on the picks, but the grizzlies pick could be of high interest to one team in particular if it lands outside it’s protection criteria (the top 8)……… THE GRIZZLIES!

Mike Conley is assuredly available this summer. If the Celtics want to compete next year and maximize Al Horford’s window, then why not put together a package for Conley so the Grizzlies get their pick back?? In many ways, Conley could be a fantastic fit for this Celtics team in wake of the Irving drama this past year. Conley has never made headlines, always been regarded as a team player and is good defensively. 

Conley has also re-iterated a desire to play in the Eastern Conference. So as long as the Celtics don’t give up the farm for him he’ll slot right into a playoff situation with a talented supported cast. Mixed with vets + up and coming prospects. I’d be interested to see what Boston would need to do to make salaries match, and what types of players Memphis would want included to make a deal work. But it’s definitely conceivable a trade could take place if Kyrie leaves.

Any merit to this scenario?

 maximizing Horford’s window? Im sure you’ll realize he’ll be 33 next year, and averaging around 14 and 7. He’s a good defender alright, but if Kyrie bounces, they should continue building through the draft. They already have an awful contract with Hayward, not saying Conley is not solid, but he’s due 67 millions for the next 2 years. Imma say no

You know the Celtics are going to save their best assets to go after Anthony Davis this summer, whether kyrie leaves in free agency or not. So I think a lot depends on that. If they do land Davis, than they could go after Conley as well, but it will depend on how much is left for them to offer. I’m pretty sure there will be several teams interested in Conley this offseason.

if irving walks, i think i’d rather have rozier than conley.  rozier has shown if given the opportunity, he can be a really good player.  he’s way younger and will come at a far cheaper price.

i think boston should actually go in different direction and build the team around tatum and brown.  the reason for this is simple.  they have 2 big contracts in horford and hayward.  hayward’s is probably impossible to move.  horford has a year left and is on back end of career.  utilize the rookie contracts and let this team continue to grow and add more young talent via the draft.  this has worked for teams like brooklyn and denver.  

a team of rozier, smart, brown, tatum, hayward, robert williams, horford with 4-1st round picks in 2019 and 2-1st round picks in 2020 is a team that can be successful in present and future with cap flexibility and assets to make moves.

Yes, Boston is likely to lose tonight, but that doesn’t mean Kyrie will leave. They have a lot of assets to trade for Anthony Davis. (Tatum, Smart, and draft picks 1-7, 14, 20 and/or 22) They won’t keep all those picks. They’d be stupid to do so. If they can get an agreement from Davis that he would re-sign in 3 years then why would Kyrie bolt? A starting lineup of Kyrie, Brown, Hayward, Horford and Davis would produce better results than they have right now. Also this would look better in the future since Conley is getting old as is Horford. So there really is no window with either one of them.

I don’t think Boston is the place for Conley, and Memphis may end up keeping their pick if its lower than 7. Sounds possible since Memphis has the 8th best odds to win the lottery. I think it is more likely to be an EC team that made the playoffs this year but still needs help at point. Like the Magic or even Indy. Indy could really be suitable for him. Indy is built like Boston, and in reality their first round series would have been closer if Oladipo’s season didn’t end so quickly. They could end up trading Thad Young and other assets for him.

you don’t get it do ya ? Kyrie is leaving, and if you can’t see this you are blind my man. Also, AD is not commiting long term in Boston lol. Im just going to laugh at the fact you think you’ll get AD without giving up Tatum AND Brown while Lakers would package Lonzo, Ingram, Kuzma and probably Hart.

 I’d be good with signing Rozier at like 10 Mill a year for 3 or 4 years. I think Stevens shines as a coach with ball movement and good D. Kinda like Pop and the Spurs. Kyrie is an Elite talent and not many people get to Coach a guy like that. His style for some reason didn’t mesh well. Ya just never know how that certain player will fit. Everyone took a chance that Kyrie would mesh well with the team. Tatum, Brown and Hayward would be interesting. Yes even Hayward. I think he can come back to previous form next year.

Could contend in the East with hopes of either Tatum or Brown becoming a top player. Or maybe get luckcy with a draft pick that is later in the first round. Would be cool to see what those guys can do.

 If Kyrie moves then do they look to hold station with the younger core and wait until Horford and Hayward have moved on and go again. I ‘m assuming Horford opts in as he’s unlikely to turn down $30 million unless he got a very good longer offer from elsewhere. Hayward’s injury has been a big factor too, he just hasn’t got back to his Utah form after he missed all last season. A fit 20ppg Hayward could well have swung a series or two Boston’s way.
