Is this… Christmas? A disgruntled big man with talent who needs a change of scenery comes to a team that can absolutely revitalize his career? He’ll start, then when Nurkic returns, he’ll come off the bench. He’s also on an expiring deal so if he doesn’t workout, we have at least $27 million to spend in the next offseason, not to mention Bazemore’s $19 million expiring deal.

Flexibility, opportunity, and serious breakout potential for multiple players all in the same breathe? In Olshey we trust.

Heat have been trying to trade whiteside since they signed him. He’s a classic example of a guy whose stats look at lot more impressive than what he actually brings to a team. Poor attitude, doesn’t show up in big games, very limited offensive game and virtually unplayable against certain lineups. Blocks shots but has never been a net positive on defense throughout his career. Not sure if this really improves their team at all and whiteside can be a headache to deal with.

Not sure Portland are better in getting Bazemore and Whiteside. They are losing Aminu, Harkless, Turner, Meyers, Curry and Kanter. Better financially for sure though.

If Little can ball, Simons becomes the 3rd guard and Nurkic comes back strong, they are well placed to pick up a 4 and be really good next year though.

As of right now I agree but I think they still got some work to do.

Harkless and Leonard were both expiring contracts so they were going to have cap space anyway next summer. Not sure this actually helps them financially either. Just a weird move imo. Do they really think whiteside is valuable enough to be worth the potential disruption to team chemistry he could cause? I just don’t see it.

The have a temporary stop over while Nurkic is healing up.

They have cap room with Expiring deals of Whitside and Bazemore.

Got Herzonja for Dirt cheap. I was hoping for OKC to pick up to be our Stretch 4 off bench..

    Hood on a reasonable deal.

Move Meyers leonard to give more mins for Collins.

    Moved Turners average deal.

They are apparently trying to get youth more minutes so Nasir and last years rookie should benefit from these trades also…

They lost Kanter who was solid for them.Which was sort of meh. As he had nice chemistry with this team.

They locked up Dame long term which is sort of a meh move as his game will age well but his cost is going ruin the Blazers cap situation ala Westbrook when K.D Left..The only thing is they better be careful what they do with C.J..Because Blazer fans you will be the exact same situation us OKC fans are currently in…Not good enough to win it all and a high tax bill and limited cap room to make moves  :S

Whiteside would either help the Blazers go over the top or disrupt their brotherhood. He’s yours now Portland.

Dumb move IMO. Nothing against Whiteside, but it doesn’t fit the modern game. The problem here is that three of their five best players are bigs, which means that at least one of their five best players will be on the bench at all times. There will never be a situation in which Portland has its five best players on the court together.

What’s worse, when teams decide to go small, the reflex in the modern game is to match them, which means, Portland will almost certainly be playing significant minutes this season wh two of their best five players are on the bench.

You could, if your bigs were able to consistently score, keep them on the floor when your opponent goes small, but that’s not really Collins or Whiteside’s game. They are more guys who finish plays around the basket that are created by others, and trying to use them to punish a team that goes small won’t work well because Whiteside can’t make a free throw and Collins can’t post up.

Whiteside is rather overrated IMO. He doesn’t really score (12 PPG last year), can’t make a free throw and has a questionable attitude.

Bazemore and Herzonga are just grabbing different guys to pretend you’re doing something. It doesn’t address what Portland needed to do to take a step forward with their roster.

Whiteside is def a legit talent at the 5 spot – especially as a rim protector & protland Def needs that

But Whiteside has Really struggled as the League has gone small – teams just don’t allow him to sit in the paint & defend the Rim – they put a smaller 5 in who can shoot the 3 & drag him out of the paint

Freaks like Embiid & Gobert over capable of going out to the perimeter & still have the lateral agility to take 2 steps & get back in position to shut down the paint – Whitesides doesn’t have that

As a result Miami really struggled tp get Whiteside on the floor against some teams

But look this could also be a Monster get for Portland b/c when Whiteside is right he’s a heck of a Center

So I hope the change of scenery reinvigorates Whiteside & I wish the Trailblazers the best b/c the West is gonna be a blood bath next year – it’s like 2014 all over again
