I’m going to start out by saying this is going to be a really long post. I’ve had some extra free time recently and I’m getting pretty bored with 2K right now so I decide to throw together a roster for "next year". Pulled in a 2019 draft class online and tried to recreate it side by side in to an actual created roster. This took almost 48 hours. After that I wanted to try to throw some free agency roster moves that I thought could maybe be interesting with out going too far overboard. So like semi realistic I guess? I didn’t play around with ratings too much from what they currently are for the 2K rosters too much mostly just cleared out all the injuries going in to next season minus John Wall because we know he most likely won’t play next year. I’m open to adjusting that if there are other players I’m forgetting. So basically what I wanted to do is post the the rosters I came up with starters and a handful of bench players from each team along with draft shake out that I added in to that. I think I used one of I’m getting pretty close to finishing and before I uploaded I figure this would be a good place to get some feedback, ideas of what to adjust, or just general interesting thoughts that you guys have. This isn’t really meant to be a projection piece just me basically being bored and having too much free time on my plate this week. So with no further ado heres what I’ve mostly ended up with, not going to include ratings since like I said I didn’t update them too much. If you guys want anymore info after let me know. I’ll throw out some explinations at the end of why I did what in another comment. Here we go:

Damn. That took awhile. So quick breakdown, I decided on a couple mostly core rules when doing this.

1. Cap strapped teams won’t change much. For example Miami, Detriot, Portland, etc had to basically run back the same core with maybe a draft pick or a vet added at most. Large player options were also opted in to minus Hassan Whiteside because well I think hes pretty done in Miami.

2. Draft lottery generator will be used and I’ll gather up an aggregate concencus on draft rankings and try to if possible weigh in need. So after the randomizer went from tankathon I ended up with CLE, NOP, NYK, and ATL as the top four teams in the draft. 

3. Keep trades to a minimum. These are pretty hard to project during the off-season and usually non draft picks or players don’t get moved during the draft just the picks and the draft eligible players themselves. Too much speculation so I kept it simple and only had two trades.

Those were my major 3 schools of thoughts of trying to keep in line with the draft, and free agency and fitting players whos potential contracts and sometimes even some rumors might fit in to open salary cap slots. I also wanted to try to keep teams a bit consistent if they were successful this year but also create some balance just for fun. Hence me breaking up the Warriors to an extent. They still have the talent that won their first championship but moving cousins and KD allowed me to balance. 

Thats why KD went to new york, with a companion (Kemba), I sent Kawhi out to the clippers with some back up in Boogie, and went through with the heavily speculated Anthony Davis to Boston trade. The only thing that was really tough for me was how to give LeBron help. The biggest balance answer for me was to take Jimmy Butler and put him on LA though I’ll admit my choice of keeping him with the Sixers because I really believe hes enjoying it here playing with our core is very bias. So I think he’ll stay but who knows. The guy is hard to read. So I decided to do what I felt was the strangest move and flip Bradley Beal to LA for Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart, and their first round pick.

I don’t really think most of this stuff will come true but if you guys dig these roster ideas let me know or if you have any ideas of what to swap around. I should be finished with the draft class by Tuesday morning so theres some time for changes.

Also please point out if theres anyone major I left out of the list while typing this up, I already visibly realized I didn’t throw Bol Bol on there (spurs) and Danny Green who I think I forgot to actually put on a roster at this point lol

Suns will not be drafting Hachimura, it’s obvious that the Suns will draft a PG, I’d be shocked if they didn’t. It’s going to be Ja Morant or Coby White, depending on where they end up in the draft lottery. But I think they will finish in the top 3, which means that Morant will become a Sun. Not quite sure how Morant would last till possibly the 7th pick. If the Pelicans do land in the top 3, then everybody on their roster minus Devin Booker and Ayton will be used to trade up to get Morant, if that doesn’t work then they will still draft a point in Coby White even if Hachimura is the best available. A PG is all the Suns need to compete, they’ve been needing one since before the season began. They probably didn’t go for in the one in the offseason because no one wanted to sign and they looked ahead and knew Morant would be their best chance and they could reasonably get him. Morant and the Suns will intercept paths no doubt about it.

So a couple things, one I don’t think during last offseason that I can remember that morant was regarded this highly so I really doubt thats why they didn’t try to grab a point guard. I remember at certain points there were even markelle fultz trade rumors floated around with them during the season. It is really hard to figure out why they didn’t address it then but I doubt it was a look forward to Morant. Two, White over Hachimura does make a lot of sense from a need stand point and either way I was probably going to go with a vet/rookie combo of scoring pf/point guard. So like either a hachimura collison combo or a marcus morris coby white type combo. The Suns have an excess of wings but no one that fits the real stretch four mold. So basically this all came down to filling positions and I had a limited pool of players to try to balance teams with. I choose white to chicago instead because point guard to me seems like theyre biggest need (kris dunn is meh) and white seems to be a less nba ready player than hachimura so i threw him on the suns and white on chicago with a corny vet choice of derrick rose for him to learn from. Maybe not the best choice but like i said I ranked balance/fun from my viewpoint over 100% realism because we know thats impossible to predict when GM’s do a lot of strange things. I definitely agree they should go all in for Morant IRL though

While I like Marcus Morris going to the Jazz, I also believe the Jazz will use some money to find a SG to play alongside DMitch who I’m convinced will play point once Rubio which it appears as to what you are indicating since Rubio is not on the roster. SG and PF would be the two positions of most need in Utah not PG, that player is already on the roster. I also think the Jazz will not look at Clarke in the draft but instead find someone that can shoot the 3 better. I think PJ Washington would be a better choice, although Clarke would be my second choice if Washington is not available, but I think he will be.

This might be a really good slot for me to throw Danny Green in to now that you’ve brought that up, I think that would be a fun addition to the roster to give them shooting. Thats also a good point with Washington and Clarke I really strugged with the latter stages of the draft but also I don’t expect either of those players to play much in 2019/20 so I didn’t prioritize those picks as much.

Danny Green would be good the Jazz, he can indeed make shots and play good D, something the Jazz look at. His attitude and demeanor also align with the Jazz. However he is not as good as some other available 2 guards. One player that I’m looking at is Jeremy Lamb, who I think will leave Charlotte regardless oh what Kemba does. He realizes he doesn’t have to be a number one option but Charlotte will have to rely on someone while they are rebuilding which they almost certainly be doing once Kemba leaves. If he stays and Kemba leaves then he would be Charlotte’s best player but he knows he’s not ready for that. So why not go somewhere where he has the chance to be the number 2 or 3 guy playing alongside another star guard in Mitchell, which he has done very well this year playing alongside Kemba? He also plays the defense the jazz are looking for at any position and has the demeanor and attitude the Jazz look for with any player.
