Is it possible that some teams sign FA players, with the mindset that they could possibly get something back for them ?

Thad Young in chicago comes to mind.. Pretty good deal 3 yrs for $41 mill. Im quite sure he will not last 3 yrs in chicago and will be traded to a playoff team.

New York – Julius Randle maybe a keeper but with Marcus Morris, Taj Gibson and Bobby Portis, one of those 3 will surely be gone. All 3 deals are pretty decent, did the Knicks sign all guys with the intend to get a draft pick or asset from one of them ?

Absolutely & to me Marcus Morris is the shining example of that this season. The thing is that it’s kind of a win-win for him as well as the Knicks.
He gets a nice salary & gets to play a big role to start out the year which for the Knicks will increase his trade value. The Knicks in return come the trade deadline can sell him to the highest bidder of which I think there will be a few wanting a really solid stretch-4 option who is currently averaging 18ppg.

Yeah, it is so obvious that they signed Morris to get a pick for him.

Teams will take on guys who may not be there long term and if a player can get onto a contender via a trade it can be a win-win situation for both sides.

Teams may even add an extra year to a deal as a team option to generate trade value further down the line.
