Mario Nakic of U18 Real Madrid was named MVP of the Euroleague Basketball Adidas Next Generation Tournament after leading his team to the crown. He set championship game records with 33 points and a performance index rating of 41. Nakic made 16 of 19 free throws and also collected 8 rebounds in helping Real defeat U18 Mega Bemax Belgrade 76-95 at Fernando Buesa Arena in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain. Nakic finished the weekend ranked third in PIR (23.3) and assists (4.8 apg.) and fourth in scoring (17.3 ppg.). The 17-year-old forward is joined by teammate Usman Garuba, Deni Avdija of U18 Maccabi Teddy Tel Aviv, Aleksandar Langovic of Mega and Matej Rudan of U18 FC Bayern Munich on the All-Tournament Team.

Avdija dominated the proceedings by leading the tournament in scoring (24.7 ppg.), rebounds (12.0 rpg.) and performance index rating (29.7). He also ranked second in assists (6.7 apg.) and fifth in steals (1.7 spg.). Garuba posted 15.9 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.6 blocks for Real. He led the tournament in two-point shooting (70.6%), ranked third in blocks and fourth in PIR (22.3). Langovic played a key role in Mega reaching the championship game with 12.0 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. Rudan was the weekend’s No. 3 scorer with 17.7 points per game. He shot 8 for 15 from downtown (53.3%) and collected 4.7 rebounds per game. Paulius Murauskas of U18 Zalgiris Kaunas was named ANGT Rising Star. The 15-year-old averaged 10.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and a PIR of 14.7 over three games.

I’ve heard of that Avdija before. Was he being hyped by Euroballer or something? I can’t remember now. He looks a legit player.

Correction, I think he will be a top ten pick. 

It’s early, there’s a lot of time for Deni to prove himself and things will change. He’s a point forward from Europe and don’t forget about Luka. Remember in 2018, before that draft everyone doubted that Luka would be the player that he is today except for Luka, himself, and a couple of other devoted fans on this site. (No, I was not one of them, but I joined the bandwagon during last season) why can’t that same thing happen with Deni? Right now this site has him at like 26 I think. My prediction is before draft day of 2020 he will rise to a top ten pick, maybe even top 5. (But that may be too bold)

 Ive actually seen Deni play a few times, the guy seems totally legit. He’s around 6-8, has excellent vision and passing skills, can score inside and out, has a very good shot, and even plays D. He is just really good at basketball. And on top of that, he’s got the right mentality and character. He plays with guys older than him, he knows how to respect them and they also respect him back and are willing to defer to him, I think that means a lot. This guy will be much more mature coming into the league than most high rated prospects
