Insane13ParticipantWhat is everyones view on this draft and potential stars or role players and where do you rank them in tiers in terms of potential? I have my own list but i go off of eye tests and not stats so i wont be lookin at it from that poin of view. But heres my opinion on this years draft class:
Superstar Potential :
None or Maybe Just DeAndre Ayton or Luka Doncic –
These two from just watching them you can tell they are different.
Alot of people are saying atlethcism is a big deal nowadays and thats far from as true as in the past. There are players like Nikola Jokic , Jusuf Nurkic , CJ McCollum , Dario Saric , Lauri Markanen , etc. are succeding in the league and arent seen as big time atlethes. The league is moving into a time where if you can play it trumps atlethcism.
Luka Doncic: He has those types of skills that can translate over atlethcism and hes also not really the worst athlete. If Kyle Korver can start now im pretty sure Doncic will be fine. Also he sees the court well for an 18/19 yr old. Can shoot , rebound , pass and create his own shot. How he isnt getting looked at like how Ben Simmons was is crazy. He can do everything he does and can also shoot . By an eye test he does things i have never seen in my generation so i feel like he could be a superstar one day.
DeAndre Ayton: He is just a beast and can also shoot , rebound and play defense when we wants to. We saw the same thing wih Embiid hes just young but as he gets older he will improve alot with NBA training and being around other NBA players. He has atlethcism to be like a Dwight Howard already added on to the fact he can shoot run the floor and actuaclly is a big player. He seems if he has the will to succeed he has the tools too. Time will tell on both of them though.

Insane13ParticipantThese are the players i think have a chance to at least be a Star. The difference is a Superstar is on a LeBron , Durant , Harden, Embiid , Simmons , Giannis , Davis , Cousins , etc. Players who can be the best player on their team or at least have the potential. Someone who can take over games whether it be scoring or just taking control of a team. I think Doncic has to the potential to get multiple triple doubles his rookie season if he gets palying time. He already has a skillset to do it and if he does that people will actually notice what hes doing at his age is crazy lol. I see at least Bogdan Bogdanovic (KINGS) In his rookie season and hes only 19 yrs old. And with Ayton he can be a once in a lifetime pick like Embiid. Imagine Ayton at 24 he will be a monster you can picture it easily happening but you still aren’t 100% sure. I have a strong feeling he will though.
Star Potential:
DeAndre Ayton , Luka Doncic , Marvin Bagley III , Michael Porter Jr. , Sleeper : Trae Young
Ive already spoken on Ayton and Doncic enough. Bagley & MPJ I feel have an it factor to them that will translate to the NBA better than in college.
Marvin Bagley III : Just from wathcing him at duke you dominated from the start and hes still supposed to be in high school is what alot of people forget. With more space in the NBA to shoot midrange jumpers , less zones like in college he’ll have more space to operate in the paint also. He should be a multiple time all-star just based on the skills he already has just being 19 yrs old. People are forgetting how young this prospects are fr. Just imagine them at 25 yrs old.
Michael Porter Jr. : He didnt get to play much but even in his last game no legs under him still scored double digits. If he was healthy he probably would be in the conversation of first pick because he easily wouldve averaged 20 ppg in college. Hes smooth so he can always can find ways to score plus is also tall socan get his shot off anytime. Compare him to someone like Jayson Tatum in the future at least and if his back is fine he shoud be a multiple time all-star also.
Trae Young : Alot of people are starting to look down on him because of how his season ended. The NBA is more spread out more wide open. He’ll be playing with way better players and coaches. Also , he’s only 19 yrs old. He will show alot of improvement in the league. I say he will be a starter from day one. If players like Teodosic getting major playing time with way less defense and way older you can imagine him at least being on his level of d as a rookie with his quickness and IQ. He fits the modern game also can shoot lights out. He did things in college Curry did in his Junior year as a Freshman and for some reason it looks like people are sleeping on him in the same way. He’ll enter the league younger than Curry by two years and the complaint about strength won’t be a big deal with a few years of NBA training. We’ll have to wait and see though.

BeardedDragon84ParticipantHow old are all you guys when you graduated? I was 17 when I graduated, didn’t skip grades or enroll early. Everyone I know graded at 17 or 18, unless they skipped a year or were held back. Granted I’m Canadian… do Americans actually grad at 19 and 20? I assumed he did what a lot of basketball prospects were doing for awhile and was held back so he would be bigger and stronger than his competition and then reclassified into the year he was supposed to be in. I mean… Kobe, Jermaine Oneal, Andrew Bynum, those guys were 17 when they were drafted out of high school. Lebron was barely 18. Bagley has already turned 19. Why is the storyline that he should still be in high school? I understand he reclassified, but if he was held back a year he graduated the same time he should have. He is as developed as a basketball player as he would have been otherwise, but was required to do a little less school work. I sound like a bitchy old man, I just don’t understand this. If he was 17 and dominating college ball the way Kobe Bryant would have been if he had reclassified I’d be much more impressed… I don’t know, am I the asshole here?
