 The better this guy plays, the more I think about the luxury it is to have RC Buford as the Spurs GM. His ability to draft talents and put them in cultures where they can develop is strange and incredible. 

 

Derrick White had a completely masterful performance tonight. He’s also been giving Jamal Murray loads of problems as a defender. The more he plays well the more I wonder how his play complicates the return of Dejounte Murray. Murrray’s injury really gave the Spurs addition by subtraction, and I’m starting to wonder where he falls in this guard play the Spurs are developing. Hopefully his ego isn’t bruised by White’s emergence. I’m wondering if Murray and White will start in the backcourt next season. Above all, between Murray, Lonnie Walker, Derrick White, and Bryn Forbes, the quiet and unassuming Spurs have reloaded…again. It’s beautiful to see.

the first thing i thought about was how it sucks to lose your job due to injuries. Not to say he lost his job but it’s def happened to plenty of Guys along the line. Most notably when Tom Brady took Bledsoe’s job

 I don’t really see Dejounte fitting in the Spurs system and style..

 Coming out of college since he isnt a freshemen I think he was a bit underrated. He has the tools and athletic gifts to flourish in the nba, but GMs prefer a young and productive and impactful player or with tons of upside. With white you can see the "spurs system player draftee" or spurs type draftee which everybody overlooks but proven in college without great potential or upsides and with question marks. Salute to San Anotonio. Well they took a kid with plenty of upside and young with murray but teams overlook murray also since he didnt lead washington to NCAA deep run or he is just average and full of question mark especially with his shooting.

 I dont think this has any effect on Murray and his role. Hes a big passing defensive guard. You could play him at the 1 or 2 and hes like 21 or 22. He made all defensive second team last year on a contender, how does he not fit their system? Lol. 

 

Beside Bufords genius, their shooting coaches are unbelievable. They took Leonard and turned him into a lights out shooter. Amazing

 Exactly what I was thinking. If he regains form he could fit on any team in the NBA. All defensive second team is a much larger accomplishment then 26 in a half of a playoff game.

I’m aware of his style of play. Murray did express lots of dissatisfaction when he got drafted at the end of the first round when he believed he should have gone higher.

I’m not sure he’ll have a seamless return when they incorporate Walker into the rotation. They also have Mills who’s a vet and will have to navigate his playing time. This problem is more like an abundance of wealth kinda thing, though I still think Dejounte’s attitude will be important next season.

 I think Dejounte and Derrick White could play together. White at point and Dejounte at the 2. True, Dejounte showed last year that he’s a great playmaker and defender, but he can still do that from the 2, and we’ve seen Derozan play the 3 this year, so why not nest year as well? Next year’s starting lineup could be: White, Murray, Derozan, Gay/Bertans, Aldridge. Their backcourt defense could be really good next year with White and Murray. It would even be a good defensive team all the way around. We’ve seen what Derozan and Aldridge can do together, so why not add in Dejounte at the 2 and make the team even better? It would be an upgrade over Brynn Forbes and Belinelli for sure, so why not?

 Dejounte would also make up for the lack of front court rebounding in that lineup. Hes one of the best rebounding guards in the league.

A White-Murray backcourt would be perfect. That would give the Spurs three playmakers, along with Derozan. Not sure why people are bringing up Walker’s playing time… being a first round pick doesn’t automatically make you worthy of 20 minutes a game, especially on a contender.

It truly is a thing of beauty…the Spurs just look for hardworking guys who love the game, but make no mistake these guys still have talent and plenty of potential.

IIRC both White and Murray, and even going back to George Hill and Kawhi have all been athletic guys with long wingspans to give them two-way potential. Then Pop and his staff molds them and gets the max out of them

I can’t believe that I was infuriated when the Spurs took Derrick White over Jawun Evans in the draft. I really thought Evans was gonna be a stud. Granted, I’m still on his side till now, but White has been a revalation.

 an explosive 6’5” highly regarded freshman combo guard out of Miami University in the 1st round of the 2018 Draft & he tore up his knee i believe in the preseason 

W/ the emergence of Dejounte Murray 2 years ago & Whyte this year the Spurs have a Crazy 3 headed monster at those 2 back court spots & all fit together very nicely w/ complimentary skills 

the Spurs ability to develop players just keeps rolling & Pop’s ability to tweek his system to fit his personnel is str8 up Amaze-Balls!

The Spurs are going to be a factor in the coming years – we’ll see if they have the talent to contend but the stories about the Spurs demise have been greatly exagerrated
