If you could construct a team in today’s NBA, how would you do?
Assuming every player is on 2014-15 salaries, maximum of 4 rookie contracts. $63 mil salary cap, with one $5 mil exception.
You’d need a PG who can shoot 3’s, run an offense, hit FT’s and defend his position.
I’d go for Mike Conley $8.7 mil. Backup will be Cory Joseph at $2 mil.
Wings who can shoot, defend well, but also create their own offense if required.
SG: Klay Thompson $3 mil. Backup: Jimmy Butler $2 mil
SF: Paul George $16 mil. Backup: DeMarre Carroll $2.4 mil
Big men who are athletic and mobile, and can hit more than 50% of FT’s. Need rim protection.
PF: Serge Ibaka $12.4 mil. Kris Humphries $4.3 mil
C: Al Horford $12 mil Backup; Brandan Wright $5 mil (Exception)
Coach: Popovich.
In hindsight, I think most teams would have Curry as their PG. What a contract! $10.6 mil this year.
1.48 win shares per mil. Bargain!
