There are three active players who currently rank in the league’s top 25 in all-time assists, but only one possesses a chance to improve their positioning on the all-time list this season.

Miller would need to average 8 assists per game to surpass Strickland. Last season Miller averaged 6.7 assists as Ty Lawson’s backup off the bench. The veteran hasn’t averaged 8 assists in a season since the 2006 campaign.

Is this the year the Minnesota Timberwolves reach the playoffs behind All-Star Kevin Love? Likewise, the Toronto Raptors and Golden State Warriors are poised to make playoff runs of their own, but can they seal the deal? Are the Dallas Mavericks toast, or will their new group of hungry veterans surprise us all?

“We showed a lot of character on how we bounced back in the series against the Spurs,” Perkins said. “But we knew to beat them from the jump, so we just had to face a little adversity. That’s not something that we were proud of, but we did win out the West. I’m not saying that’s not a great accomplishment, but we had a bigger goal than that.”

“Yeah, it’s been great,’ Davis tells HOOPSWORLD. “Just got to keep working hard, it’s been tough on us, tough on me especially because of guys coming after me. I got to learn how to play through that and move onto the next game.”

What does all of that mean? In a nutshell, Harden scored 66 percent of the time when he shot the ball last season, and he was in a reserve role in all but two of his games. The Rockets would like to project that out and see if he can score at a similar clip when he’s playing 10 more minutes and getting, perhaps, 10 more shots per game. In short, Houston hopes that the numbers hold and Harden rises to become the best shooting guard in the NBA this season, eclipsing Bryant and Wade.

“It is a process for a rookie,” Casey said. “He is not that far behind because the one thing he can do that makes up for a multitude of sins is he can shoot the ball at the end of the day and that’s part of the process too.
