JYDParticipantWas just thinking about a move the CELTICS should think about :
What about : HAYWARD + PICKS for ADAMS (and perhaps Patterson or Roberson for salary balance);
-he’s available against draft picks… Ainge still got some to use.
-he’s a good team first playerwho knows his role and should help WALKER TATUM BROWN to find ways to score
-he has good hands, soft touch around the rim and is very effective in P&R-it solves the HAYWARD BROWN TATUM issue and gives more confidence to BROWN
If you give the Celtics 2020 1st round (unprotected) and the Bucks 2020 1st round it should be a deal done for PRESTI. If Presti is greedy you can add the 2nd round Nets draft picks 2020. Patterson and Roberson don’t have any value anymore with their injury record.
ADAMS THEIS TATUM BROWN WALKERKANTER R.WILLIAMS POIRIE PATTERSON inside from the bench
G.WILLIAMS OJELEYE LANGFORD WANAMAKER wings from the bench
SMART EDWARDS guards from the bench
More balanced roster (and good chemistry imo). What are your thoughts about that ?

HobbyOGParticipantDecent trade..I think the Celtics need to trade Hayward, he doesn’t fit.

halfdecayedParticipantok, let’s add another awful contract on top of CP3’s. That’ll help rebuilding yep

JYDParticipantHayward has only 2 years on his bad contract… as Adams.
Adams’ contract is bad and Haywards’ one is A LITTLE BIT worse … cause he’s little more expensive and little less productive right now with the injury. But it’s close. And if you’re Presti and manage to get 2 first round draft picks for this little difference, well you are interested.
Maybe you’ll be able to dump Paul’s contract to another new rebuilding team (in a new process…. as every year) with 1 of those picks, when needed…?

markfitz14ParticipantBut I doubt the Celts would trade a guy like Hayward until they see how he fits this year. At least until the trade deadline. Maybe he will fit perfect.
Brown can play SG so Hayward and Tatum should both be able to play some type of PF minutes.

MopgrassParticipantYes, the Thunder need more bad contracts. They might not be that bad with Heyward and CP3.

JYDParticipantWho cares how many bad contracts you add when you’re juste at the beginning of your rebuilding mode and compete in the wild wild west conference ? Presti doesn’t ; especially if you keep your flexibility in 2/3 years.
What’s the point of trying to keep cap space if you’re not a free agent destination (market size, competitiveness, quality of the roster and the coach / staff…) ? You have to use this cap space to eat those bad contracts with other assets (prospects, draft picks). That’s exactly what the Nets and the Hawks did the last 3 years.
Hayward is a bad contract for sure. As Adams. Just switch the bad contracts and get additional picks for the future.

SubZeroParticipantWhy is everyone so eager for us to trade Adams?

Posted on: Tue, 07/23/2019 - 12:13pm #1137051
JYDParticipantCause he’s an interesting player and Presti is a seller ?
I even think (personal opinion) that Adams is a better player than what we’ve seen the last 2/3 years. He can do more on a court than what Donovan manage to get. And I’d be very eager to see him in Brad Stevens basketball with Kemba Walker Brown and Tatum.
… and it would be very kind for Kanter too.

SubZeroParticipantI mean why is everyone in agreement that he’s getting traded? I’m not saying it’s not a possibility but he’s still young and a perfect guy to have for a rebuild

JYDParticipantAgree. Perfect guy to mentor young prospects (as SGA and futur 2020 rookies) off the court and to help them on the court.
I, personaly, wouldn’t trade him if I were Presti… but he’s kind a "all in" man and if you offer him 2 first round draft picks that could help him (move up during the draft, unload CP3 contract…)… I think he would pull the trigger.

SwatLakeCityParticipantNow that Westbrook and Paul have left OKC, this is Presti’s chance to remake his roster the right way. Before those two were traded in like the 2017 offseason I think, the thunder had 300 million on their payroll! They had to move Carmelo Anthony to the Hawks just to shed some of that ridiculous amount of money owed. (who was then moved to Houston, and didn’t last long there either and now I’m not quite sure where he’s at, nor do I really care to find out). When Presti heard about PG 13’s trade request, he looked at it as a chance to get a do over for having that much payroll on his roster. So he’s going to do everything to make sure this doesn’t happen again. So for all of you who are saying it doesn’t matter how many bad contracts you have if you are rebuilding, put yourself in Presti’s shoes. If you have the chance to remake your roster the right way after having 300 million on the payroll at one point, wouldn’t you do what ever it takes to save money? He took back one bad contract with the Russell Westbrook trade. He’s not going to stick with CP3 the entire rebuilding process, he will trade him. Probably around nov. or dec. of 2019. He just needs to find the right offer. Remember he’s trying to build his roster a lot better than he did before. The Russ-CP3 was originally going to a be a 3 team trade with Miami involved but Presti thought he could squeeze more of out of Miami if he kept him instead. We’ll see if he was right. But one thing I know for sure about saving money is to not waste a lot of money on something that really isn’t worth the headache. because they are extremely hard to get rid of and cause you a lot of frustration. If you do then you need to get rid of them quickly. The longer they stay on your books the more damage they will do. So if you already took back one bad contract, then why would you take back another one? Especially if the player you get rid of is a fan favorite and if you trying to save money in the long run?

The GoatParticipantAdams is still pretty young. He’s on big money but you aren’t going to find many players at his position that reliable at his age. He’s a fan favorite and they’d just have to search for someone else to fill the void. If you have a comparable player you can get for far less money, ok, that frees up cash to get other stars, but I wouldn’t be in a rush to move him. Once CP3 is gone then you can rebuild with Adams as part of that.
Of course, if you disagree and think you can’t win a title with Adams, then move him now while he’s young. Probably mid season or next offseason after he puts up inflated numbers on a depleted squad.

HitsterParticipantHayward for Adams would work and if Boston throw in an asset then it helps Thunder rebuild. If Hayward can get back to something like his pre-injury form then Thunder have a decent player.

SwatLakeCityParticipantJust straight up Adams for Hayward doesn’t work for me, and I don’t think it works for Sam Presti either. Yeah, there are the picks from 2020 draft probably, but just those alone doesn’t do it for me. Knowing that Hayward is coming back from a very serious injury, that happened the first day in his new digs, concerns me. Is he still the same player he was with the Jazz??? You don’t want a player that is a shell of themselves for as much as he is owed. In the end it would just be the picks for Adams. And I know that would get laughed at. Especially since the Celtics are still expected to be a playoff team this season.
Now I do like Hayward on the Thunder, he does fit, and if you didn’t have to consider his recent injury, than I’d probably do it, but since you do, I need more of a prize than just picks. Maybe throw in another asset that helps the Thunder rebuild, like Bol Bol. But first, wait until February, just to see if Bol squared can get his strength up and still show what he showed in the little time he was at Oregon pre-injury.
Now, of course, this trade would still need to help the Thunder out financial wise. So maybe include a third team, that can take on Hayward’s salary, which at the moment there aren’t any, but there may be some come February or next offseason.

JYDParticipantBol x 2 is a Nugget not a strange green leprechaun… MAYBE you can add Tacko Fall if you really want to give a giant to the Thunder.
Hayward is a good vet’ presence in the locker room for a rebuilding team like the Thunder and a solid exemple concerning work, conditionning, trianing for young prospects. Even if he doesn’t perform as he used to (it should be difficult imo), he should still be an interesting piece for Presti.

cohenbc1ParticipantWhat exactly is the "HAYWARD BROWN TATUM issue"?
I love Steven Adams, I think he’s a much more impactful player than Hayward is or has ever been. But Hayward/Brown/Tatum are three really good, maybe great players with length who are pretty much interchangeable at the 2, 3, 4. Even when Marcus Morris was competing for the same minutes, I didn’t consider it an "issue" — I thought of it as "depth."
There are 144 minutes per game to be divided between the 2, 3 and 4 spots.

JYDParticipantHayward brown tatum doesn’t seem to work well… after just one year (post hayward injury). The issue imo is not around hayward’s level of play but rather about brown’s progression
Tatum hayward or brown, can’t work as pf in D (maybe in O in stevens basketball without irving). It didn’t work last year and Morris was the bandage on the wooden leg. But you are very weak inside and destroyed on the rebounds. Switching Adams and Hayward can solve those kind of issues.
Depth is not there, when the 3 players you have, for 2 spots, want to be starter and it inhibits their production / progression (And smart takes minutes as a SG too…). Ibaka Van Vleet Powell were ok to be brought from the bench. Grant Robert Williams evene Carsen Edwards and Ojeleye have to step up if they want to have depth.

Andv1 WaitingParticipantNever say never as picks and cap relief can make people do things when a tax bill awaits…
Personally I hope we keep Adams as he suits our rebuild with his: Skill, character and age..
Why it won’t happen:
We move Jermi Grant to get under the salary cap/lower our tax bill this move barring us moving a horrible deal(like roberson)+ an average deal like patterson or Dennis S with it even with the picks make no sense as Hayward is on 34/35 mill vs Adams 24/25 mill per year.. Would put us back over it..
Fans would leave OKC bandwagon completely and after trading Westbrook they can’t really afford to lose the last fan favourite they have in Adams..Trading all 3 in one offseason wouldn’t be a smart business move..
We don’t know Haywards legit health coming off that gruesome injury…
OKC would lost big depth for wing depth…Which we have a lot of and would essentially be Boston take 2 where a young wings growth may get stunted…
How it could happen:
If OKC are able to dump some average deals onto boston in trade process. Something like this Dennis S(he may be moved for another asset),Adams,Roberson and Patterson for Hayward and at least 2-3 picks(with low protections) as being honest Bostons first rounders will probably be low(15-25 range) due to solid roster and one of the best NBA coaches..Both deals finish same time but cap relief for us(rebuilding) and Cap absorbing for them(contending) also makes sense..
We would be an all slow team but if Presti is all about getting assets and Boston wants to move forward with Taytum , Brown and maybe one of their rookies it makes sense to trade Hayward for a need(a big).
