fai714ParticipantThis makes no sense to me. From everything I’ve heard, Perkins was the difference between the Celtics and the Heat. Why would they get rid of someone as proven as Perkins has been and someone who can help shut down the Heat??? Also, if Perkins wasn’t injured in that last game of the finals the Celtics prob wouldve won, what happens if they face the Lakers?? I just don’t get it. Must be something the Celtics know that we don’t, i don’t understand why Ainge would go thru with a deal like that otherwise…

SwatLakeCityParticipantWell they do have Shaq and Jermaine O’neal so they make up for loosing Perkins. Celtics needed someone to take the place of Marquis Daniels since he is out for the season. Also by doing this they can prepare for when Paul Pierce decides to retire. (Should happen within the next year or two.
Although I don’t really understanding the trading of Nate Robinson too. Didn’t the Celtics like him backing up Rondo? I guess they wanted to provide room for Avery Bradley to back him up instead.

Mr. 19134ParticipantThe Celtics have been trying to throw Nate Robinson in a trade since the begining of the season to save money and Nate hasn’t really provided anything in the way of defense, and Delonte West, and eventually Bradley are better.
West and Bradley are both 6’3 combo guards who play defense, Nate Robinson is a 5’8 combo guard which by all measures is a mismatch.
And the Celtics have been the best team in the East all year without Perkins so obviously they felt he was expendable, and they bring in Green who can guard 3 positions, and score 20 points on any given night, that gives that incredible depth and versatility.
Bottom Line is this trade made the Celtics even scarier. Glen Davis’ play also helped them make this decision too.

torontoraptors10ParticipantThe bottom line is that there is a new CBA agreement coming in and Perkins wants a new contract that the Celtics can’t afford. So they traded him, instead of losing him in free agency.

BoomshakalakaParticipantI think that prior to the All-star weekend everyone thought that the C’s had a legitimate chance at the Championship or at very least the Eastern Conference Finals. Perkins is key to their team. He is no where near their best player but because of the lack of True Centers in the league he is by default a top ten player in his position. With him they have the size to match anyone in the league. W/o him they have to rely on the aging O’neals or Big Baby at Center! What?!? I like Green for the future but I dont think they are a better team now. I think they just added a couple years to them being a playoff team.
Steal for OKC they got exactly what they needed….0 -
