What prospects fit best where? What strategy should teams have for the 2020 draft and why?

I’m a Lakers fan & somebody who generally believes in building through the draft. LAL are already ‘built’ but do have some glaring needs that they don’t have many options to address given their cap situation. Luckily for the Lakers sitting at pick 28, the top 40 picks are largely a crapshoot given the class it’s self & limited scouting opportunities on account of the NCAA tourney being canceled.

I would love to see LAL either go for a lead guard that can create off the dribble and shoot and/or a rangey perimeter defender that can guard 4’s if need be. Devon Dotson, Saadiq Bey, Tyrell Terry, Jordan Nwora, Pat Williams, Leandro Balmaro etc would all be great fits. But the less sensible side of me wants to see them swing for the fences on an upside pick, maybe even moving up to do it. Poku,, Tyrese Maxey, Aaron Nesmith, Devin Vassell, Josh Green, Nico Mannion & RJ Hampton could all bring highly valuable skills/abilities to the table & I think the risk may be worth it considering how stiff the competition for a title will be going forward with a healthy Nets, improved Clippers, growing nuggets etc.

What do you guys think? What do you WANT to see? What do you think we WILL see?

Swing for fences picks like nesmith won’t be available late lol.. draft BPA, other than Center. I would love mannion but I doubt he’ll slide that much. Shooting has to be a priority.

I don’t think this is the draft to “swing for the fences.” With a late 1st pick I think teams should take whoever they believe has the best chance of becoming a contributor. Most guys drafted at that point probably won’t. Dotson is one of those guys who falls in every draft because I guess size/athleticism concerns? But he seems almost certain to become at least a reliable backup PG — I wouldn’t hesitate to draft him for the Lakers.

The team is win now so take someone who can contribute from day one. They might even flip the pick for a veteran on a rebuilding team if he was on a reasonable or vets max deal.

Boston should select SF Jaden McDaniels at #14…PF/C Isaiah Stewart at #26…PG Malachi Flynn #30.

I want Toronto to pick a Center. With gasol ptentially retiring Van Vleet, Ibaka and Gasol expiring and only enough money to re-sign one of them (unless Gasol takes a paycut) the smartest decision would be to pay Van Vleet what he wants and look for other options at the Center position. gonna have to let Ibaka walk.

Masai Ujiri loves to draft African players in that late 1st round slot and he clearly knows what he’s doing, Anunoby and Siakam were both absolute steals and cornerstones of Toronto’s future. I think Oturu (Nigerian) and Nnaji (Nigerian) are on top of Toronto’s draft board but I dont think they will be available that late.

I like the other Center prospects in this draft as well but I expect Ujiri to reach for the French/Senegalian Abdoulaye N’doye who has spent 4 years as pro in the French A League and recently broke through with his productivity. He’s a 22 year old point guard but has a height and wingspan which measured at 6’7 and 7’2 4 years ago. Just seems like a Ujiri pick.

Or who knows maybe they just hope somebody drops to them and they can scoop him up. Maybe Achiuwa falls or something. what I really want them to do for the Center position is sign Kyle O’Quinn and see what he can do with starter minutes, he can pass like Gasol and fits perfectly into our offense. Also bringing back Biyambo isn’t a bad option. Or we could play small ball with Anunoby like we did against Boston.
