markpionParticipantHi there. Been a huge Atlanta Hawks fan since ’94. Christian Laettner’s my alltime fave Hawk. I have a few ideas. Tell me what you think.
1)Bring in Bryan Colangelo as GM, Larry Riley as assitant GM, Phil Handy as head coach and Larry Drew as an assistant coach.
2)Sign Javale McGee as backup C for 2 years, $15 million.
3)Trade a 2020 2nd and 2021 2nd for T.J. Leaf(backup PF).
4)At 1, either take Anthony Edwards or trade the 1 for Klay Thompson.Trae Young, John Collins, Deandre Hunter, Clint Capela, Kevin Huerter, B.Goodwin and Cam Reddish is a nice base.
Thx.0 -

markpionParticipantHi P. Actually Mark Pion and I think Colangelo did a great job building 2 teams. Considered Milt Newton and a few others. Thx.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantFirst of all McGee isn’t a free agent until next summer so you would have to trade for him.
There is no indication that Atlanta is looking to move on from schlenk as gm or pierce as coach. If you really wanted colangelo though, I’m sure he wouldn’t be too tough to get.
Leaf has been pretty disappointing and hasn’t been able to crack the rotation in Indiana thus far. If you were to give up 2 second rounders for him, I’m sure Indiana would jump at that.
If Atlanta does get the number one pick I’d definitely lean toward Edwards as the selection. No way Thompson is available though.1+ -

bt102ParticipantYeah, no chance Klay would be available tho it might be smart considering how old GSW is getting. I also feel like Indiana would need a serviceable player instead of an additional second. Maybe a Bembry or more likely Treveon Graham, I guess.
There have also been rumours of Atlanta not being sold on John Collins, so he may not even be on the team next season. He wants a Max, and Atlanta doesn’t want to give it to him so idk. What Atlanta needs is try and pry Smart from Boston.

sniperParticipantWell you don’t need McGee as the team is currently constructed — you have Capela, Dedmon and Fernando all under contract for next year, and I assume Colllins plays some small-ball center.
I love Klay Thompson but I wouldn’t trade a #1 for a 30+ player coming off an ACL injury. I also don’t like the idea of adding an over-30 star to an up-and-coming core of 25-and-unders. Let the kids grow together, the way Golden St. and OKC did.
I would look at bringing back Teague, if he’s OK coming off the bench. If not, find another tough vet who can settle the team down when they need it, and let Young play some off the ball.

markpionParticipantIf GS gets Edwards, I think Klay could be available. ATL would probably want Edwards or Wiseman over Klay. Klay becomes an option if they miss out on both those guys. I agree with McGee not being a UFA and Fernando having decent upside. Still like Leaf for 2 2’s. Never really got his chance in Indiana. Basically, the Hawks need a big splash this offseason. Reddish can’t shoot, too. Thx.

markpionParticipantBy the way, Handy comes from the Raptors and Lakers tree and is a gift from God over Pierce. Pierce is a horrible decision maker and it reflects in his players.

markpionParticipantActually saw we have Dedmon signed for a few years. If we get Wiseman, i’d consider trading Capela for Klay. By the way, would you do Reddish for Otto Porter jr.? Reddish is a horrendous shooter. Thx.
