In the finals he showed he was still really, really good. Unless a surprise major trade happens, Iggy seems like the last player out there who could really swing the balance of power, depending on where he finally winds up when Memphis inevitably moves him or buys him out.

If he went to the Rockets, they would get that wing defender they’ve badly missed since losing Ariza. They could go back to being the 65-win wrecking ball they were in 2017-18.

He would make the Lakers a top-tier contender (they’re not quite there yet). The LeBron/AD/Boogie frontcourt is too big and slow in many situations; LeBron/Kuz/AD might be bad defensively. Iggy/LeBron/AD would be just right to finish games against the other elite teams.

The Spurs have always loved Iggy. How good would they be if Iggy got the minutes at the "3" they are currently going to give Belinelli and Carroll?

And what if he finished his career where it began, in Philly? All they are missing is depth. I think he would make them instant favorites to win the East.

I’m not sure he works with the Spurs because they already have a roster full of guys. I think they play a three guard lineup a lot with White, Murray and DeRozan with Carroll and Gay playing a hybrid 3/4 and LA playing the 5. 

In a perfect world that is where he would have been as he is a Spurs type guy, but that time may have passed.

Rotation at 1, 2 and 3 will be made up of White, Murray, DeRozan, Mills, Lonnie Walker, Keldon Johnson, Bellinelli and Carroll. The minutes at 4 and 5 will go to LMA, Poeltl, Lyles, Samanic and Gay l. It’s a deep squad. I’m surprised most are saying 40-45 wins. I think they are looking at 50+ and that they are a playoff lock.

 I mostly agree; I only mentioned the Spurs because they’re my team and I love Iggy.

The only way it could work, I think, is if they trade Belli to a team that can absorb his expiring contract, and are content with DeMarre Carroll as this year’s Dante Cunningham — outside of the normal 9-man rotation but ready to go when someone else is out. I’m not sure about that considering they just invested 3 years/20+mil in Carroll.

I guess the real question would be “does any team want igoudala bad enough to actually trade for him?” That would involve giving up assets and taking on his contract. This is what Memphis was hoping for when they acquired him. They are hoping that some team gets desparate enough to bring in iggy, that they are able to net something in return, rather than just buying him out and clearing the way for him to sign with whatever contender he chooses. We’ll see what happens. 

Teams like the lakers, rockets, etc. don’t have the assets or cap space to trade for him so they are counting on him hitting the buyout market.

Spurs are going to be VERY good this year. Derrick White and DeJounte Murray aren’t that much of a dropoff compared to Jamal Murray and Gary Harris.

If Murray comes back 90% of his 2017-18 self I’m hammering the Vegas "over" bet on the Spurs. I think they will be quite good this season as well.

 Memphis always try to run their season as long as they can without thinking of tanking and for a young roster having a title winner like Iggy there would be a good leader to have. With him being on a large salary trading for him wouldn’t be easy but if come New Year a team could do a deal for him and throw in a late first rounder then it is a no brainer for either side.

Memphis might play hard ball if he asked for a buy out and only offer him say 30% or less of his money owed. If he was desperate to move on then he’d probably agree to it. 

Given he was with GSW until recently, if he was bought out then either LA team could make sense, I’d also throw in Miami, nice climate and tax rate plus they have helped some guys extend their careers.

Having guys like Noah and AI in the locker room with young blue chip prospects is ideal. You want him to teach these young guys how to prepare and how to be professionals. No better guy to learn from than a champion and finals MVP.

The Spurs won 48 last year so I’m not really sure why anyone would think they are going to win 40-45.

I think their biggest issue is the West collectively got much better and they will continue to win, but not really be in contention to win it all. They just don’t have the kind of transformational individual player that it takes to contend for a title, and to be honest, I don’t see anyone on their roster developing into that kind of player. 

That franchise gets more out of the second half of the draft (first round) than anyone over the past 20 years, but it’s aleays important to remember they got Duncan and Robinson No 1.

Until or unless they get another great player, I think they’ll always be pretty good, but not quite good enough as long as Pop and the guys currently in the front office are around.

The Spurs were in serious decline from 2009-2011 — they won a total of zero games past the first round in those three seasons.

Then they found that transformational player — Kawhi — with the 15th pick in the 2011 draft. They proceeded to make the Western Conference finals in four of the next six seasons, with two finals appearances and one title. 

But they never had to bottom out, or even miss the playoffs, to get Kawhi. They need that lightning to strike again.
