Marv Albert just retired. Sneaky retirement after calling the Bucks game. His protege Reggie Miller got to sign him off. Respect to one of the best I’m gonna really miss Marv especially if they get another clueless basketball player to fill in. I’d like to see Grant Hill get one of those prominent jobs.

I’ve been watching all of the Fiba games in Canada’s group. Czech Republic upset Canada in an overtime thriller. Canada came back from 10 points with minutes left thanks to a bunch of steals and Wiggins scored 5 points in the last (20?) seconds which included a clutch 3 pointer. Satoransky banked in the game winner and said he didn’t call bank but he called game… I think its interesting that Nate Bjorkgren was Nick Nurses assistant during this tournament after being fired by the Pacers Toronto could really use him back.

Greece also upset Turkey. Papagiannis was clearly better than Sengun and the other Turkey bigs in this matchup and was frankly unstoppable with Calathes at the point and Mitouglou spacing the floor. Rick Pitino is coaching this team well and has done a great job. Papa G’s an NBA player no doubt. It will be interesting to see if he makes the jump anytime soon. This isn’t a knock on Sengun though, his draft stock should be fine and solidified as a 1st rounder but his age (18) and lack of physicality when playing guys his size showed in this tournament. He took a beating against Czech Republic and Greece.

Cam Reddish just played the best game I’ve ever seen him play and for some reason he came out of his shell in game 6 of the Eastern Finals out of nowhere… Kinda has me rethinking my stance on guys like Ziare Williams, Josh Cristopher and BJ Boston and I know what you realists are gonna say…”After Just OnE GamE!?!”. Yes after just one game. That talents nothing to play with because as you seen with Reddish tonight he can be hurt all year come back at the end of a playoff run and just decide he wants to win and not be nervous and then its on. They should’ve passed him the ball more down the stretch.

    Got this on wiki.

“On July 20, 2018, Papagiannis officially returned to Panathinaikos, after signing a contract with the team for 5 years, with the last 2 years of the contract being team options. The contract also included an NBA opt-out option, after the third year of the contract.”

If this is true his three years are up and he could be in play for a buy out.

Big Papa was one of the rare times Euroballer was spot on. Called him as a lottery pick if I remember correctly.

The Czechia-Canada game was wild. The “unsportsman-like” foul on Lyles for landing awkwardly seemed to end it, but Canada had a run. Tip of the cap to Satoransky for turning it around. It always feels as though a team that suffers that kind of collapse can’t recover in OT, but they turned it around. Canada really missed Dillon Brooks, heck even Brady Heslip, because they needed a shooter. Was Nik Stauskas not available?

Sengun looks small. He reminds me of Jared Sullinger without the weight concerns. He is skillsy, and can see his perimeter shot coming around. I just don’t know how being small works with bad lateral movement. In the first half, they tried to keep him away from Papagiannis, even played him at the 4. I think the hype around him going as high as the lottery is not grounded in reality or context. He could have enough to offer to stick, but I think if you frame him in a context of being matched up with the centers in the conference finals (Ayton-Lopez-Capela-Zubac/Cousins) he is going to look tiny.

Cam Reddish has 84 and 800 shots under his NBA belt, and is 37.8% from the floor and 30.9% from three. Allen Crabbe got rich getting hot for a few weeks in the playoffs. He was still Allen Crabbe just with $78 million. The concern with Ziaire Williams is that he shot 33% from the field or worse in 8 of 20 games. He got hot a few games, but the downs kill you. Boston could have helped himself if he played at the Combine, because he shot 33% or worse in 14 of 25 games. The games where he did well were against 6-15 South Carolina, 14-12 Georgia, Richmond, and Morehead State. Give the people a reason to think that there is more to be judged from less organized and coached AAU and high school games than the SEC. Give them a reason to think “well, covid made things tough.”
