YungmUNyParticipantWho do you see being named to this year’s All-Star team?
I was trying to figure it out myself and found the West pretty hard to call.
Going on last year’s voting totals, I’d assume that in the East, this year’s starters are likely going to be Irving, Wade, James, Anthony, and Bosh. In the West, they’ll be Curry, Bryant, Durant, Griffin, and Howard.
Paul could conceivably get more votes than Kobe though, and Aldridge could get more than Howard. If that happens, I don’t think either gets into the All-Star game based on the coaches’ votes.
As far as the seven reserves go, at this point, this is how I see it breaking down:
East:
Should be in – John Wall, Kyle Lowry, Kevin Love, Jimmy Butler, Pau Gasol
That leaves two spots for the following players – Jeff Teague, Joakim Noah, Nikola Vucevic, Brandon Knight, Deron Williams, Rajon Rondo, Paul Millsap, Jeff Green
Personally, I’d take Teague, and Vucevic.
West:
Should be in – Chris Paul, Marc Gasol, LaMarcus Aldridge, James Harden, Anthony Davis
That leaves one spot for the following players – Dirk Nowitzki, Klay Thompson, Demarcus Cousins, Tony Parker, Damian Lillard, Tim Duncan, Goran Dragic, Eric Bledsoe, Kawhi Leonard
If no one gets hurt and it shakes down that way, I have no idea how to make the call on that one. It’d be a shame if Cousins didn’t make his first All-Star game after the season he’s been having, but if his illness holds up, the time he’s missed may take him out of the running. I also don’t see how you can have an All-Star game without a single Spur. Parker’s missed a good deal of time, and neither Duncan nor Leonard are having great statistical seasons so far, but the coaches will probably favor those guys over guys who put up big stats on worse teams. I’d probably wind up picking between Dirk and Thompson, but hell, even Lillard would make sense, and if the Suns can win some more games, either one of their guards will have a legit case.
