The 2nd day of the camp resumed with two sessions of games for the international players, and one session for the counselors. Even thought the counselor games are the biggest attraction for scouts because these are the guys that will be eligible in the upcoming draft, the younger kids are showing some great potential and are definitely worth keeping an eye on.

Jared
Sullinger
6’9 PF

A very strong and wide bodied player, Sullinger has been able to
dominate inside because of his strength as well as his leaping ability.
When he catches the ball in the paint he can create space with his
shoulders, and then use his explosiveness to finish over top of
defenders. There is no doubt that he needs to put in work on his body
and shed some weight, but he moves extremely well and his activeness
around the basket is very impressive. Sullinger is also a very
underrated passer; he is very unselfish and looks to make the extra
pass at every opportunity. He might not have the consistent midrange
game for a prototypical 4, but he has a lot of other tools that make up
for it.

Tony Wroten,
Jr.
6’4 G

His performance thus far has been definitely inconsistent. At times he looks very lackadaisical and disinterested; when he is forced to play off the ball he does not have the same impact as when he’s the primary ball handler. He is at his best when he is allowed to break down the defense and look for open teammates in drive and dish situations. Speaking in terms of NBA potential, Wroten has some physical shortcomings that definitely decrease his ceiling. He is listed as 6’5, but looks more like 6’4 and lacks the great quickness and blow-by ability that top level PGs possess. As a scorer he is also a bit limited because his jump-shot is still a big weakness in his game, allowing people to play off of him. To his credit, in the 2nd day of the day, when the game was close, he turned up the energy. Even though he did not score too many points down the stretch, he was the main facilitator, setting up teammates. All in all, he needs to keep the intensity at a high level if he is to be effective, because his physical package is not at the point where can take plays off and still do damage.

LeBryan
Nash
6’7 F

A very long and springy player who has shown some very intriguing things the first two days. He has great size, and has the skill set that allows him to operate on the perimeter. He can comfortably take people off the dribble and make counter moves to finish at the basket. Although he still needs to work on his body, has a very nice frame and shoulders that give him the potential to put on good weight without affecting his mobility. Around the basket he can use his length, body and touch to score from very difficult angles against taller defenders. His ball handling is very advanced for a player his size, and he was able to show some things in transition with the ball in his hands. The one thing that he hasn’t been able to show is his outside shot, but he has been so effective getting to the basket, that he hasn’t needed to.

Jordan McRae 6’5 SG

His frame is extremely light, and he needs to add strength, but he was able to show some nice things regardless. His outside shot was working for him and he was able to knock down a variety of jumpers. He has solid handles, and his long strides allow him to do some nice things out of the triple threat. He runs the lanes exceptionally hard, and he has more than enough athleticism to finish the break above the rim and with authority. Adding weight and strength is a must for McRae, but he definitely has some nice tools to work with.

Marquis
Teague
6’1 PG

In terms of quickness and open court speed not many players can match Teague at this camp. He has good ball control even when going full speed through defenses, and just as impressive is his arsenal of moves in the half court. Incorporating a nice crossover as well as hesitation and spin moves, he can keep the defenders on their heels at all times. He is a bit skinny, but for a player his size, he has terrific leaping ability that lets him finish around the hoop against taller defenders. He has a tendency to try to do too much, by over dribbling and going into traffic, but the combination of his athleticism and ability is very promising.

Cory Joseph 6’3 G

He was able to use his dribble attack to get by the defense at will today. He has nice quickness and doesn’t get carried away trying to do too much, although he does look to score too often rather than setting up teammates. His mentality is very much as a scorer, but with his size and package he will almost certainly have to be a one. At this point he is a little too streaky, going through stretches where he scores easily, but then at other times he cannot buy a basket. His jumpshot is smooth and he has the ability to shoot off the dribble and while on the move but he still needs to work on his consistency.

Notes: Trevor Booker played pretty well today, he was able to show off his strength and athleticism by trying to dunk every time he touched the ball, but in the process he showed the overall polish that his game lacks. Malcolm Lee played well for the 2nd straight day, showing his explosiveness and handle, but he we tamed a little by Jerryd Bayless who decided play a couple games at the end of the day.
